    Compressor air lines

for a drain, couldn't you use a reducer fitting and then drop down to a 1/2" or even 3/8" ball valve?

    Pressure washers

I was in a similar position 2wks ago. I had a inexpensive ($200ish) gas powered washer for about 4 years. I used it a few times, probably no more than 20 hours. Last week, after fighting like crazy to get it to start, the pump exploded. I searched and searched and found that the replacement...

    Which Plywood For Wall Sheathing?

I used 1/2". It was less expensive, easier to handle, and I didn't really see any advantage in the 3/4". Before I did mine, I'd recently helped someone put up 3/4" in their garage. Sure the 3/4 is stronger, but once you're done, you can still see all the screw holes, so you know where all...

Check out this home made all-wood car lift!

Of course that's the case when you're just referring to the material. But when he started doing the math, it really makes sense to use the actual dimensions, as it will effect the calculations. Yes, that's exactly my point. You correctly came up with 264%, where as his math resulted in a...

My local Home Depot has cameras watching self check out, does yours?

I don't mind the cameras. I assume most large stores are filming me at all times. Who cares? It's not like I'm stealing things. What does bother me is the places that check your receipt as you leave (Sam's Club). Once I pay for it, it's my property, and I don't appreciate them sorting...

Check out this home made all-wood car lift!

Wow! I've seen about 10 people essentially write- I saw something made out of wood once, and it was strong. So by definition, these ramps must also be strong. :lol_hitti I laughed out loud when I read that. I would have thought that after spending all that time building those ramps, he...

MaxJax on Jay Lenos Garage= wtf

Actually, he saves every penny he gets from NBC. He only spends the money he gets from public appearances (comedy clubs, Vegas shows, commercials, etc). “I had two jobs as a kid, one at a fast-food restaurant and one at a Ford dealership. And I’d put the money from one job in one pocket...

    The lawn mower thread (ugh)

I always bought Deere walk behinds because the self-propel was faster than Toro & Snapper, and WAY faster than Honda. I loved how the Hondas would cut, but of course it'll cut well when it's only going 1mph. As a professional, I didn't have time for that. But that was a while ago. I'm not...

The new guy would love some advice.

If you really want a lift, then 2500 should be well worth it. Not for 6", but if they could get you 2' or so, it'd make all the difference. You might look at just doing a tray, or vaulted ceiling over the 1 car part, and leaving the 2 car part as is. That might not cost nearly as much as the...

Single car garage and a 4 post lift

Have you looked at a single post lift? It'll cost you about 2x as much, but I would think it'd give you a lot more room. You'd at least free up one wall. Looking at the example pictures, I don't see how you'd barely get in and out, once the cars were in there too.

The new guy would love some advice.

I wouldn't put in the wall. If you're going to put a fullsize truck (Tahoe) in there, you'll want as much width as possible. Plus, without the wall, you can back the car out and get more shop space, as needed. it'll get the rails up higher. Also, if you get a 4 post lift you're more likely...

Had to use a wooden floor

how much life insurance do you have? :bounce: Wait until you have a pad to put a lift in there. If you can't wait until you get a full slab, then at least pour some footings to support those 2x6s. Everyone has talked about down force, but what (besides gravity) keeps those 2x6s from sliding...

Wireless video surveillance cameras ready for prime time?

I've got wireless. Some of the channels mess with my wireless internet connection, and all of them cause static on the portable phone, if you get too close to them. On top of that, I would imagine that wireless cameras are fairly easy to hack.

    4 post lift

I understand that if the lift is rigid, then that's better. And I understand that it's mostly/exclusively operator error creating these failures. Still, bolting them down is a good back up for when something else goes wrong. I think of it like a book case. The sides and shelves can hold...

    4 post lift

It's not absolutely required, but it makes a huge difference in structural integrity. I saw one 4 post that fell when 1 of the posts bent and gave out. Had the other 3 posts been bolted down, it most likely would have been able to hold up the top car and not damage the car below. Furthermore...
