    ah right, if the halogens had LED bulbs then that would work because there wouldn't be much heat output? How Good are the halogen spots for light output? is it shadowy?

    right thats perfect. after speaking to a few scottish guys they said 5 inches but they seem to always 'over engineer' and over do things.

    damp core as far as I'm aware is like thick plastic. you just put it on top of the soil and part way up the wall so when you pour the concrete its contained in a plastic membrane. It stops moisture rising from underneath.

    I'm now thinking about a (kerosene) oil boiler running raidiators as oil is only 45pence per litre and each litre of oil has a heat output of 10.4KW/h with means each equivalent KW/h is 4 pence. So even if the boiler was only 50% efficient then it would still be a lot cheaper than electric. also...
