1000 square foot garage in central TX

You might want to shop around a bit. I went with the Mr. Cool Oasis ES and found a neighbor that does commercial refrigeration to do the vacuum and startup. Paid $100 (and got a receipt for the work, for warranty purposes) and it took about 1 hour. $400 for 1 hour seems quite steep to me...

Mini Split or Conventional Forced Air

I've had my Mr. Cool Oasis ES in a 480 SF garage for almost a year now. I freakin' love it! I keep the garage at 76-78 all summer, yet I haven't noticed enough change in the power bills to even know its running. It also did a great job of keeping the garage warm during what passes for winter...

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split, Seriously, I Think...

Is that $3,200 installed, or $3,200 just for labor? Unless there is a LOT of work that needs to be done to get power to the outside unit, you're gonna be pissed when you see how little work it takes to install a mini-split. Took me longer to go pickup a disconnect box and power whip at Lowes...

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split, Seriously, I Think...

Where on Earth does this happen? I've watched repairs and installs at neighbors homes and have NEVER seen an HVAC tech spend more than 30 minutes on the pump-down and test. Most are done in 15 minutes. :( Hit and run work, get to the next paying gig as quickly as possible is what seems to be...

Any ideas on how to hide, or disguise a outside minisplit unit?

Also, to help keep it invisible, you could run the lineset through the wall right at the outdoor unit and do the rest of the routing inside the garage. That way you wouldn't have the lineset running up the siding of the garage. :)

    Boost a fan wiring

Scroll down that page and watch the video. No springs, no damper plate. It's some type of fabric sleeve that opens fully to let air flow out, then collapses when the air stops flowing.

    Boost a fan wiring

There is a non-electrical solution, if you have access to the ducts. Install one of these in each line: http://www.batticdoor.com/bathfandraftblocker.html There may be better prices out there, I just picked that site at random. ;)

    Some simple mini-split installation questions

Around here, everything is wet, pretty much every morning. Current temp, at 4:15 AM is 75, humidity is 89%, dew point is 75. This isn't even a really muggy morning. I was quite surprised to see the entire length of the lineset cover wet with condensation the morning after installation.

    Some simple mini-split installation questions

I had zero problems installing the sleeve that came with mine. It was a somewhat flexible plastic that was easy to trim to fit the angle. Leaving out the sleeve around here could result in water dripping inside the wall. My entire lineset gets condensation on the outside. The insulation just...

"Hybrid" heat pump water heater recommendations

There's a bit of magic involved in filling one of those tubs from a regular heater, that apparently very few have figured out. The faucets on those tubs can flow WAY faster than a typical water heater can keep up with. The high flow slams the heater tank with too much incoming cold water and...

    Some simple mini-split installation questions

    1) My Mr. Cool 18K has insulated 1/4, 1/2 and the drain tube. All fit fine through the 2.5 inch hole called out in the instructions. My lineset kit also came with a plastic sleeve to line the hole. 2) I mounted just enough drywall to get the unit mounted on the wall, as I didn't want to mess...

    Mini split sizing

Yes, because once the room temp is satisfied, they slow WAY down, run almost continuously at a greatly reduced BTU/Hr, and keep the temp steady, all while still removing humidity as air blows across the cool evaporator. The "dry mode" is mainly for use during spring and fall, when the outdoor...

"Hybrid" heat pump water heater recommendations

Just saw a video that explains the long-term cost savings: However, keep in mind that you're removing what is probably the most dead-simple appliance in your house and replacing it with one basically has an air conditioner sitting on top of it. Future repairs to the hybrid could kill off any...

remote switch (relay ?) for air compressor ...

Do you have access to the lighting circuit? If so, this thread might offer a solution: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193219 Switches off power to the compressor when the shop lights go off, restores it when the shop lights are on. :) EDIT: That's not the thread that...

Air-Conditoner Went Into The Garage Today.

The main reason was the Mr. Cool 5/7 year warranty. Not much else out there that offers that long of a warranty unless you want to cough up way more cash to have a Mitsubishi or Daikin installed by one of their dealers.
