    Drying Air Compressor talk

That dryer looks like a dual tower regenerative dryer. It will need a considerable amount of purge air from your compressor constantly to dry the tower that is offline. be aware of this to be sure you have enough of a compressor to keep up with the demand

    Cordless Drill

I've got a Porter Cable 18v model PCL180CD cordless drill. It's been a good drill and has served me well for probably 8 or 9 years. The batteries are becoming weak and I've been looking for new ones. The old batteries are 18v lithium. Looking on line at Porter Cable's website the only lithium...

    Compressor Automatic Drain

Auto drains are a good idea. Electronic ones are best suited for an industrial setting. They do consume a lot of air and if left powered up will drain your tank overnight. The pressure drop valves are good also but whatever kind you choose be sure to install a manual drain ahead of the automatic...

    Compressor oil recommendation...

You didn't mention what brand or model but generally A 20 wt. oil is best for temps between zero degree to 100 degrees. 30 wt. below 30 degrees does not splash very well and the wrist pins will suffer. I've been the compressor business for over 50 years so I've seen most of the problems with...

Bought new (used) compressor, what kind of filter should it have?

A felt filter will do just fine on that machine. A new one would have little effect on the efficiency but would degrade with time. An upolstry shop would probably have some. A piece of hardware cloth or screen cut to the appropriate size would prevent fibers from migrating into the pump.

    The Air (Pneumatic) Tools Thread

I'm an air tool junkie. I've repaired air compressors for the last 55 years and would use only air tools. I have, in addition to the regular die grinder & 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2" impact wrench I have a D/A sander, inline sander, air scissors, air shears, air powered Reciprocating saw, air powered...

    Air Compressor ?

Tight as you can get them. Don't try & use the 3450 RPM motor with that compressor. It does not have enough starting torque to start that machine. Use an 1800 rpm motor. Use ISO 68 hydraulic oil in the crankcase. Good old slow speed compressor. Use about an 8" dia motor sheave to achieve a pump...

    quincy 325 compressor parts help

Look closely at prices & compare to sleeving back to standard. Sometimes the manufacturers charge a hefty premium for off size parts. Was in the business for 50 some years and we always sleeved back to standard because of price. Also, if your driver (motor) is marginal, if you go oversize on...

Kellogg american 321 air comp trouble

You mentioned that it slows down. Big hint here. That unloader valve is operated by a set of centrifugal flyweights inside the crankcase. When the compressor is running the flyweights extend outward and the unloader valve is closed. When the compressor stops the flyweights collapse and a...

    Diesel/Heavy Equipment Mechs

I worked as an industrial machinery mechanic (compressed air) for 55 years and loved it. Every day was a different location, different people and different circumstances. Never went out on strike and was never laid off and worked for one employer 30 years 'till I went out on my own. Should have...

    Insulating a 40x40x14 Metal Building

I just did the same thing. Moved from California to Oklahoma & bought a house with a 30 X 40 shop. Metal building with I guess a pole barn. Anyway there are 6X6 posts on 8' centers and 2X8 stringers (horizontal connecting elements) on 40" verticals centers. These leave 1 & 1/2 " space between...

What is the best lighting for a pole barn (garage)

LED shop lights. Inexpensive and bright. $36 bucks at SAMs. Plug in & very low energy use. I replaced 15 F40 fluorescent lamps with 6-4 foot long LEDS & use 1/3 the energy with a brighter shop.

Talk me out of a rotary compressor..

Recips don't have to be noisy. I have a Quincy model 325 that's pressure lubricated with a Solberg air filter/silencer driven by a three horsepower 230 v motor and it is very quiet. I would venture to say <85 dba. Never had a sound meter on it but it would not interfere with normal conversation...
