    cooling a garage discretely/cheaply

I'm just adding to this example to restate that good insulation is key. I live in a 30 y/o house and remodeled 5 years ago. Replaced/improved all insulation in all walls and ceilings and replaced doors and windows. I have the same A/C as before remodel (it's 10 y/o now). 5 yrs ago, I paid...

    domestic hot water tank

You had mentioned the 'tankless' earlier. I was remodeling our house in 2006. I used this opportunity to try to improve our energy efficiency in our home. Among other things, I got rid of our 40 gal electric water heater and installed a Rinnai tankless propane (we don't have Nat.Gas avail)...

Where to start with building garage

Okay, I don't live in PA. I live in Florida. But, I just put up a metal building 30x50x12. I could have done a lot myself and saved money, but I saved some time and let the manufacterer do it in under 4 weeks from the time I signed the contract. They pulled permits/called for inspections...

    failed inspection on new garage

County budgets are getting tight everywhere. Our county is actively laying people off. I guess pro-active employees justify their need and salary, creatively if need be.

Installing a lift outside - thoughts?

I live in Florida and in this location, we average 40"-50" rain/year, although we never get the cold. We have a tire shop locally that has had a 4 post lift ouside for at least 16 years (that I know of) without any cover. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Wash bucket on wheels... on a budget..

I agree. Working too hard. Way to stay creative though. Here's another similar to what has already been posted: http://www.webstaurantstore.com/36-quart-mop-bucket-wringer-combo/274MOPBUCKET.html Again, throw away the wringer. OR, hang on to it and make the bucket a multi-use tool. The...

    Mini-split line installation question

Izenglish: "I have found these units to be very reliable, and with remote controls on them, you will be "The King"! " Izenglish, Thanks, but I was refering to the brand of mini-split, not the condensate pump. I am currently building a room/shop in my garage and am looking at cooling options...

    Suggestions needed…

jermc777's question: "Do you recommend etching before or after I do the grinding or both?" rugerlady's reply: "Normally you would not do the acid after grinding." Although Mrs. lady is correct, 'jermc' may still be a little confused if he was unsure to begin with. The 'Acid Etching' is a...

    Heat/AC for a 40'x60' garage???

Just another suggestion. This is a 2400 sq.ft. building. 50% bigger than my three bedroom house. You're probably going to spend $800-$1200 on the split unit for her 'hobby room'. I have a coworker that recently built a 40x50 building/garage and bought a central heat/air unit for about $2400...

Wayne...You said that you have found them to be "very reliable..." Is there a particular brand that you have found to be reliable. Have you had any problems with a particular brand???

Anybody used Iron sulphate (Copperas) as a concrete stain?

But, reportedly the Hi-Yield Copperas (Iron Sulfate) is $5-$7 for 4lb or $11-$13 for 15 lb bag. The 15 pound bag will make 8 to 15 gallons of stain depending on your desired strength/color. It makes a reddish-brown. I can add the color for $10 to my 1500 sq.ft. and then add whatever sealer I...

    newbie garage

jgabl, I know it's been 2.5 years since your last post and twice that long since you began it. My question is about your floor. I have a new 30x50 garage and am about to stain the floor. I have been seriously looking at the Iron Sulfate just as you did. But, I am curious about the sealer...

Anybody used Iron sulphate (Copperas) as a concrete stain?

Max, I realize that you posted this 2 months ago. But, I was researching the very same subject. Did you end up trying the Iron Sulphate? I have a new 30x50 garage that I am considering using this on. It is a metal garage. I was considering the acid stain and wondered about all that acid...
