I think Plywood would be the best to use even though it's more expesive but you don't have to worry about it getting to wet and growing on you and falling apart like OSB does. OSB is cheaper and is used a lot in shops and houses but I really don't like it .

Most lifts I've seen and used at school need at least 12 1/2 to 13 feet ceiling . But i know of a shop with 8 foot walls with the ceiling cut open to accomidate a lift.
