    The VISES of Garage Journal

Picked up a Columbian 506 the other day. Pretty good shape overall, was frozen about a third of the way open when I got it. Got it freed up and it works great. Gotta have the obligatory beer can for reference. 6" jaws and opens 10".

I'm in central Virginia too. If you are willing to do a little driving, this Morgan or Columbian would be worth picking up. The Columbian is missing the pipe jaws, however. I had a Columbian 203 1/2 I gave to a friend and I have a Morgan 4 1/2 Star vise. Both are excellent. Columbian...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here is a thread discussing that particular Craftsman vise. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142872 There are links early on to other threads discussing who made it but I haven't gotten very far into reading them yet. Edit: appears to be a Chinese copy, but one guy said...

    Wilton WS8 vise?

It was free and it holds stuff that I hit with a big hammer. And stuff that I weld. Does it hold a candle to my Wilton C1 or my Parker 273? Not a chance, but it does keep some weld spatter off of them.

    Wilton WS8 vise?

I have one mounted to a post outside my shop. It serves as a beater vise and I have no complaints. Not sure of your budget and if you are willing to consider a smaller USA vise but here is a Reed 103 on eBay for a decent price...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Cleaned up and painted the Yost 104 I got from eBay earlier this week. Went to my local paint shop and had them make me a spray can of the closest thing we could come up with for VA Tech Maroon and a touch up bottle of burnt orange. Depending on the light it either looks exactly like Tech...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

The vise was incorrectly labeled a Reed in the title of the eBay ad, but correctly listed a Yost in the description. Probably why it didn't have much action. Also this pic looks weird (cracked) under the dynamic jaw, but it's just paint chipping a little bit. My boss will definitely be happy...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Picked up a Yost 104 from eBay for $100. ($70 for the vise and $30 shipping). This one is gonna get stripped down then painted Virginia Tech maroon and orange. My boss just built a new shop and is a huge Tech fan, so I'm gonna give this one to him. These are the eBay photos.

Do you carry a pocket knife?

I carry a Leatherman Juice CS4 and a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. The Juice is nice with the corkscrew since I work at a farm winery. Had the Spyderco for a few months now. But I have all sorts I've carried over the years, Kershaws, Benchmade Mini-Grip, Ontario Rat 1, Spyderco Tenacious. I'm a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Made up a set of nylon soft jaws for my Wilton 9300 tonight. Nothing fancy, just some 3/4" x 3/4" off-white nylon bar stock I picked up from McMaster-Carr.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Cleaned up and painted the Wilton 9300 I picked up a while back. Went with satin blue with white lettering. Screwed up on painting the 9300 so didn't take a pic of that side yet. Gotta let it dry then do blue, then try the lettering again. Made a temporary set of wood jaws until a 12"...
