    yes, good point and thank you for input as well. I live in a snow belt near Lake Michigan so that is certainly a consideration, garage is small enough to keep snow removed by hand though. I was able to get the building inspector over tomorrow as well, so according to him its doable to raise...

    Thanks all for comments, after talking with BI on phone, he said it should be ok to raise 12 inches but is coming over to inspect once I get building permit for modification. thanks, tried to see, but no go.

    In process of putting new track for new garage door and won't be able to install horizontal track due to obstructing rafter ties. Garage is approx 10 feet wide 18 depth and 7 1/2 feet tall. Garage door is 7 feet height, 9 wide. Basically, would have to take out two rafter ties to accomodate...
