Another Mini Split set up question

$6,500 for the install?! Looks like I'm doing the DIY Mr. Cool. lol It really doesn't seem too hard. The most annoying part is probably drilling through the foundation.

Another Mini Split set up question

I'm looking at 3 different units right now. A pioneer, Mitsubishi, and Mr. Cool. Pioneer and Mitsubishi both said 14-2 in their manuals for a 12k BTU unit. Mr Cool said 12-2 but preferentially 10-2 for a 12k btu unit. I have no idea what local places are going to charge for the install. I'm...

Another Mini Split set up question

...I have no idea. I'll need to look into it though. Right now I'm just going to run the wire to an AC disconnect outside before putting up the drywall. My main concern is that I'm not missing something or using the wrong wire. The space is probably around 350sq ft so even a 9k or 10k BTU...

Another Mini Split set up question

I'm hoping this hasn't been asked before. I did a search but couldn't find anything. I'm finishing my basement and plan on installing a mini split in one of the rooms. I'm still debating between a DIY system or having someone else do it...but in the meantime I want to make sure I run all the...

What are your thoughts on options for leveling first course of siding?

I would measure down from the eaves. An old siding guy once told me that being straight is more important than level. If you make the siding level, but the eaves/soffit aren't level, then you'll notice the top row the siding will look crooked.

Wall mount/Jack shaft opener - Regrets

An additional $900 sounds excessive. I have never installed or worked on a garage door in my life and removed our old overhead door opener and replaced it with the liftmaster 8500. I spend a few hours researching how to do it and watching youtube videos. Winding the springs is a little scary...

    Shop Insurance

It shouldn't be the "fair market value". Valuations are typically based on replacement cost. Not all policies will have coinsurance though...so you might be able to find a policy that doesn't have a coinsurance clause. But with those types of policies, the carrier will DEFINITELY make sure...

Broken water service line, 710,600 gallons of water used this billing period, (every 3 months)

$6,500 sounds a bit steep to me. We replaced an old galvanized water line in our home and it cost us $1,800. That was about 10 years ago though so I'm sure the prices went up. I specifically recall calling a few plumbers and their pricing was probably closer to $4k at the time. Then my...

    Heat hoses in attic.

What's the heat source? We had a similar issue in our home but our heat is run through the central air conditioning ducts. There's a heating coil that used hot water from a gas fired boiler. The solution for was to add an aquastat on the water line near the air handler- which would prevent...

Husqvarna 150BT leaf blower surges and stalls

I had a similar problem with my husqvarna blower. It's probably about 10 years old. Are you using ethanol free fuel? My guess would be a clogged up carb. Especially if using fuel with ethanol. Cleaning the carb isnt really worth it IMO. I just bought a replacement carb on amazon. After...

    Repair hole in pvc pipe

I did something similar. Accidentally drilled a small hole in a PVC drain pipe. Because of where it was, I couldn't get good access to it without removing kitchen cabinets. So I cleaned the area thoroughly, then used JB water weld to plug the hole. Then I took a section of PVC pipe one size...

Dangit. Mice droppings all over the garage

I've used the bucket trap with pretty good success. The mice in our garage love to build their nests in the airboxes of my ATV's....

    Siding replacement

We have Alside vinyl (not composite) on our home and are very happy with it. The contractor we used only worked with Alside and obviously was a big fan. I've heard good things about their composite siding but don't have any first hand experience. I would look into the maintenance though. We...

    Options for my garage walls?

I love my Proslat slat wall. Not exactly cheap though. Also, Home Depot sells these 4x8 plastic wall panels for around $25 each. They're around 1/16 inches thick. I used them in my laundry room rather than finishing the drywall. Its fast, relatively cheap, and more durable and water...

Interior Baseboard, trim and Door Paint

Agreed. Benjamin Moore Impervo seemed to be the gold standard. My dad ran a painting company for 40+ years. Each year the Ben Moore rep would tell us that they were phasing out the impervo and/or only selling in quarts and labeling it "for metal only". I believe this was due to environmental...
