VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Ok, I'll see if i can get the bottom off, and punch out from underneath. The next trick is separating the bottom - the bolt is rusted in place too, need to find a socket large enough to remove. Currently have that soaking with pb blaster - is it necessarily bad to use heat to help remove these...

Any ideas on getting the pin out that that holds the slide nut in? I've tried soaking in pb blaster and kroil, and getting a vise grip on it and knocking with mallet to try and loosen, but its stuck in there good...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

The swivel portion looks like there is still a little taper there - there are threads visible, but only on the lower 1/4 - 1/3, so I have to assume it still has some taper. the body seems tapped - cleaning the bolt up, it doesn't exactly screw in easily without resistance, but will go in with...

Someone at some point either tapped the base, or forced the bolt in there. At this point, would it be better to chase the threads and leave the top pivoting jaw with a thru hole? Or ream both out for a pin?

I didn't even think of a carriage bolt, thanks ! I'd like to use it, everything else seems to function properly. Going to take a wire brush to it and oil it. I'll check the dia later tonight.

I have a Rock Island 51A that looks like it's missing the swivel lock arm and nut. It's rusted in place right now, but are these parts able to be found anywhere ?

    Rock Island Vises - History/Info?

Thanks for the catalog images! For now I'm going to hang onto it, sentimental value and all that. It looks like the swivel lock arm is missing on mine, although it's not swiveling. Maybe its just rusted in place... Are swivel locks and nuts able to still be found?

    Rock Island Vises - History/Info?

I just picked up a Morgan 100A and a Rock Island 51A from my dad - searching online, I'm finding zero information on this Rock Island model... does anyone here know an approx age for this guy ? Not sure I want to do a full restoration, but I do want to get some of the rust off there - probably...
