I'm now thinking the recess in the bottom of his pulley is due to ware, but I am not positive. He did install a set screw in the side of the largest slot But your right it is working and has for over 30 years. I am hoping to find a version of the original metal pulley.

I just checked it out closer. It simply slides on from the top. My grandfather simply made a straight bore with recessed bottom bore to receive the larger bearing/ bushing on the bottom of the shaft which slides up and down on the splined shaft. He then drove steel pins into the splines to keep...

I looked at my old pulley and the only marking is the "made in USA" The top is .51 and .63. The bottom is .82. My guess is there is some ware. I forgot to check the depth. I think it may also started out in life as a 4 step pulley.

I will have to check it out tomorrow after I get home from work. Thank you for your help so far. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow evening.

I think I found it too. A Powerkraft from montgomery ward. Now to find a replacement pulley. Thanks so far for all the help

This is the remnants of the name plate on the front of the machine

This was my grandfathers mortiser. The 4 step pulley broke so he made one out of oak that he glued up and turned on his lath. Any help in finding a new pulley would be greatly appreciated.
