    Wilton / Baldor Double Score

I should have clarified, I got both for $80.

    Wilton / Baldor Double Score

While surfing Craigslist I came across an ad for a flimsy sheet metal workbench "with grinder and vise" for $500. The "with grinder and vise" is what caught my eye, so I contacted the seller to see if he would be interested in selling just the vise and/or grinder. Long story short, I countered...

Show off your largest drill bit!

MT6. None of my machines are very big by any standards, but this bit makes them look like toys. The ol' nine inch doesn't stand a chance. The Wilton Strands would fail too. And next to a 1" and 1/2" MT2 bit for reference.

Show off your largest drill bit!

I know this is an older thread, but I picked this up at an auction and thought I would share. It's 3.375" in diameter and over 2' long weighing in around 40 lbs.

Craftsman Hand Tool Manufacturers & Date Ranges

Upon close inspection of the 1/4" bar (4354 - K) you can make out "Armstrong USA" and "938" etched around the perimeter of the head above the stamped Craftsman lettering. So maybe this tool was made in the USA but didn't have it stamped? The chrome plating also appears to be "darker" like my...

Craftsman Hand Tool Manufacturers & Date Ranges

Well that's disappointing. I've been searching for pictures of any Craftsman T handle with a USA stamp but I've been unable to find any, even on the V series.

Craftsman Hand Tool Manufacturers & Date Ranges

I recently placed an order in an attempt to get some of the last USA made tools before they were gone and received 3 sliding T handle wrenches with no Country of Origin stamped on them. The part numbers are 4354 - K, 4428 - K, and 44152 - K, which according to the table at the beginning of the...

Wilton Strands 25" Gear Head Drill Press

Thanks! As far as I know, Wilton was the only importer, but Arboga, Strands, and Solberga all made very similar machines. I managed to get the one of the drive flanges mentioned in my previous post knocked out and was very happy with the results. I adapted the spindles from a GM 14 Bolt rear...

Wilton Strands 25" Gear Head Drill Press

In preparation for a set of custom drive flange I need to make, I finally mustered up my order from McMaster to freshen up the drill. Parts ordered were a new fine feed hand wheel, new gib lock screws, and new handles for the XY table. Old on top, new on bottom. The handle had a blank hub...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

These are my 4" and 5" Wiltons. I disassembled, wire wheeled, and painted the smaller one when I got it and then promptly scuffed it back up while using a flap disk the next day. The larger one sits in my storage room as I don't have table large or heavy enough to bolt it to. Once I...

Wilton Strands 25" Gear Head Drill Press

You are correct, a piece of round stock with some 1/4" flat for the "arm" would fix me right up. I really wish I had a lathe to turn a new handle, but alas I have no room for one. The shop is 19' x 29' and I use it to work on my '83 crew cab long bed C20, which is 21' so space is at a premium...

Wilton Strands 25" Gear Head Drill Press

I am working up a McMaster Carr order to replace several broken, mostly cosmetic items on the machine. These are a new fine feed handwheel, new handles for the table handwheels, a new adjustable gib lock screw, and a new crank for the head raising mechanism. The fine feed handwheel is broken...

    Built-it-myself tools/machines - show us what you've done

This is a 12" grinder I made using a Shop Smith platen from eBay, a 40 year old, 1.5HP grain bin fan motor, and some scrap I had around the shop. I still need a harrow disk to add to the bottom. It still needs a shroud under the table to catch the swarf.

Wilton Strands 25" Gear Head Drill Press

I got out for about what Craftsman's largest drill press costs. I'm fairly happy with it since their isn't much in the way of machine tool selection in BFE S. Georgia. I do have a question; The machine uses a 24v step down transformer for the controls and the machine light. Where does one...
