    Tools your dad gives you.

We had a joke back when me and my siblings were in our teens and twenties that "Tool Santa" came every Christmas. I still have a lot of the stuff my Dad gave us back then. Pretty much all Craftsman, and all still working. Dad passed on in 2005 and thanks to him and my father-in-law's...

    Dropping stuff

Many years ago, my 7/16 socket fell into a hollow frame member of my TR-3. Never saw it again. I know it was the 7/16 'cause the one I replaced it with looks different than all my other ones.

    first tool box

For a saw, try this: http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1290076 Mine takes Sawzall blades that fit in the handle, so it's switchable from coarse wood, to fine wood, to a hacksaw. I'd go with the 3/8 sockets instead of the 1/4. For smaller sizes, a bit set that has...

    Old Craftsman hand carry box

Well, I can only go from my experience. I've got a 65013 box I bought around 1975 with the Crown logo. I read on one of these tool forums that Sears switched to the newer version around 1977. ETA: Regardless, it's a nice box. I've got a different version of a Craftsman 2-drawer that held all of...

    Old Craftsman hand carry box

That rectangular Craftsman badge is post-1977. I've got a similar box from 1980 or 81 with the same one. Don't know exactly when they went to the next variation.

    Ebay buyer problem

Although .... There was the buyer who said my Smith's tach from 35 years ago didn't work. It worked when I took it out of the vehicle way back when. I had no way of checking it before the sale so I negotiated a cut rate. Still made some money on something I was going to junk, but now I'm...

    Ebay buyer problem

I may be a rarity. I haven't had many problems with eBay, and I've been a miniscule /flea market buyer and seller since 1996. Things I buy are packaged well and shipped expeditiously, things I sell are paid in full, promptly. I hope the good karma continues.

    boat bottom paint for floors

I might go for deck paint, but bottom paint could well be toxic. Not sure you want tributyl tin around your shop.

    1/4 inch socket set storage

Outlaw's box comes up on eBay fairly often, usually in the $15 to $30 range. I paid ~$20 (box + shipping) for the Proto 4795.

    1/4 inch socket set storage

You can still get a Proto 4795 metal box (7"x3 1/2" x 1 1/8") at a few of the online tool sites. It's designed for a 1/4" socket set. I used it for a 3/8" set, using some 3/4" aluminum strip to create some dividers.

Plans to sell off your tools?

Outlawmws basically said everything I was going to say and then some. If organized, photographed, and well described, you're most likely to get the best price on eBay. I've been thinking about this since my wife settled her father's estate. She came home and said "We're getting rid of stuff."...

    Craftman Ratchet Question

I've been shopping for these for awhile. Every week one or two go up on eBay. Average price (w/o shipping) seems to be about $25.00. For 3/8 drive, you're looking for a 43788 or 43781. According to Lauver* "The 43788 ran from 1970 - 1979 The 43781 ran from 1980 - 2010 Both models are the same...

    Cleaning up rusty sockets

So, once you've gotten rid of the rust, does anyone have suggestions for getting the chrome shiny again? Chrome polish? Buffer wheel? What do you use to clean up the chrome on a car?

Need help identifying what type (style) of house I have??? (pic)

Not a Cape. Not quite a bungalow. Does it have 4 rooms on the second floor with windows on both sides of the room? Stairs going straight up from the front door? And maybe the same layout on the first floor? That would make it a foursquare, which was one of the popular styles for the Sears...
