The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I bought this Snap On one back around 1978. I was an apprentice welder working in a machine shop. The truck came around and I bought the cheapest one that he had. I use it as a welding cart now and will probably let it go when I sell the welder.

    Let's see your axes

Here's a couple more I have out at our resort property. One is a 3 1/2 pound Swedish one. Another is a 2 ¼ pound Swedish with Happy Days All star on the handle. I think the axe might have been a rental. The other has M5 stamped on the head. I put a new handle on it about 10 years ago.

    Let's see your axes

I have a couple I picked up a few years ago that are in really good condition with original handles. They stay hanging in my shed for the time being. One is a Mastercraft 3 ½ pound one made by Mann Edge probably back in the late 70's or early 80's. The other is another 3 ½ pound one made in...

Below 265 SQ/FT Very small garage in Russia

I always wanted to visit Saratov. Both my grandfather and great grandfather are from there. Pretty much the whole family left the region around 1920 and came to Canada and the US.

Dewalt customer service. I get better help from the cat.

About 12 years ago I bought a Stanley 163 piece socket set to keep in my pickup just in case. Last year I went to use the ¼" drive 13mm socket. It was not there but a second 12mm was in it's place. I gave them a call. Customer service was great and I had a 13mm socket delivered to my door in...

Speed Handles --- What They Good For?

I used my ½“ last October when I put my wife’s snow tires on her suv. Yesterday I had to use it again to put the summers back on because my wife drove off with my truck. I had left the impact in the box.

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

There were two Xcelites in the box too. I just figured they were tools that wire splicers used.

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

Garage sale season pretty much just started around here. I went to one nearby and picked up a bunch of Swanstrom jewelry pliers. They are all in perfect condition. I figured they were just small needle nose and flush cutters until I got home and googled them. I couldn’t believe the retail price...

BBQ Grille Grates - Anyone made any?

I have owned a Weber for about 15 years. It came with the stainless grills. I have tried every type of oil on the grills and they are still black. The only time they were shiny was when they were new. By the way, the grills look pretty good.

    Dustless Drywall Sander

I have a Richard one that actually works pretty good. Although not perfect it captures most of the dust.

Shop Vac - Ridgid or Dewalt - Portable Unit

I bought one of these when I needed to sand a lot of drywall in our finished basement. The Ridgid hose is too stiff unless using it for construction debris or water. It adds about another 8' to the original hose. This hose is softer and I can use some older vacuum attachments. It's actually...

How do you store your electric extension cords?

I coil mine and hang them on nails. They have to be perfect or I will re do them. My wife isn't allowed to coil them up because she could care less about any twists or kinks in them.

    Do you "exercise" your ratchets?

Not much of an exercise but I do the drop test every now and then. They all passed wherever they're made. Even a couple that flew away.

    Thoughts on angle grinders?

This corded rat tail Dewalt grinder is an industry standard. 13 amps and comes with 4½" and 6" guards. They have a real nice small body.(DWE43116) The Makita 9005B grinder is a little bigger and only 10 amps but it is also an industry standard around here. You have to order a 6" guard...
