    Odd Vise

That's exactly the information I was looking for, Thank you. Once upon a time I accumulated pocketknives. Once I decided to get rid of most of my collection, I discovered that below a certain value, the knives weren't worth the time and aggravation to sell. If the vise was a highly collectible...

    Odd Vise

sorry my picture isn't uploading. When the vise is fully closed there is about 1/2 centimeter gap at the top while the bases of the pates are touching. I'm not sure if this is by design or wear. Grizz

    Odd Vise

Sorry, I hadn't filled out my account info fully, I'm in Dunkirk NY, Western NY on Lake Erie. After Garky informed me it was a woodworking vise, I went googling, but couldn't find a match either. I don't see a way to attach wood to the faces, and it appears that the faces aren't completely...

    Odd Vise

I don't see any markings but they could be on the hidden backside where it is bolted to the table. I'm curious so I'll probably remove it next weekend and see what I can find. At least now I know what it is so I can research further. Thanks. Grizz

    Odd Vise

I decided to move an old table that came with my old house out of the basement. (House built in 1919) Attached to the table is some type of vise thing that I am unfamiliar with. I know that at one time the previous owners did canning in the basement, so it may have been used for that. It is...

Hollow Handle (Wooden, also Steel) Combination Tool and Bits

Looking at the add from miller falls someone else posted in post #202, it seems almost an exact match of the miller falls #5 tool which does include what appears to be a file and even a similar saw. Mine seems to contain a countersink instead of the reamer though. Mine is marked, "THE BRIDGEPORT...

Hollow Handle (Wooden, also Steel) Combination Tool and Bits

TWICE LUCKY! As I have continued sorting, cleaning, and identifying old tools in the garage, I found a second one. This one by Bridgeport Hardware (I don't believe the piece of triangular file is original to the tool, but it was packed inside the handle) And this one I can trace the...

Hollow Handle (Wooden, also Steel) Combination Tool and Bits

Cleaned, waxed and off the the Curio Cabinet. I will keep my eyes open at estate sales, now that I know what I'm looking for. For reference, it is marked: "THE G. L. HOLT CO HFD. CT. PAT'D" Grizz

Hollow Handle (Wooden, also Steel) Combination Tool and Bits

I did see his, and thanks for the welcome. It actually takes a little work to get all the bits situated back inside correctly. I can't imagine anymore fitting. The saw, screwdrivers, awl, and chisels are easy, any idea what the last two bits on the right are for? they aren't sharpened. Wood...

Hollow Handle (Wooden, also Steel) Combination Tool and Bits

Hello, I was cleaning out the garage and going through tools and I found one of these. Marked G. L. Holt. I almost chucked it out as an old broken handle except that it seemed too heavy and rattled. I currently own the family home that was purchased almost 80 years ago, always provides...
