Wow…I should have more closely read your post 5 years ago. That would have been the solution for the head clearance. I really like your idea and looking at the pics i recently posted to update (in this thread) I did half of what you suggested…I cut rafters that spanned from the old lean too...

My issue now is I ripped out all the wiring and whenever I’m out there I have a single outlet with like 50 feet of cord …powering my tools. Once I trigger the saw the lights dim… lol I’m saving up to pay an electrician to sort that out

5 years later and my contraption is still standing. Everything done for the first time…so ehhh not perfect. Works for me

I added some cross bracing from top to bottom plates at two sections of the wall because it was supposed to be really windy last night. It put my my mind at ease.

so do I worry about shear force?

How much of the framing remaining straight and upright depends on the sheathing- whether planks or something like OSB?

inspecting the wall and thinking how to reinforce, for storage cabinets maybe?

I put my work bench on wheels, added some needed shelving and braces. Made from scraps and leftovers.

I wanted ceiling joists out of concern that the walls could spread over time. I cut a template of a rafter that would grab the top plate and **** up nicely to the collar tie. Figured I could add a gusset where they join and connect the walls that way…but could be a stretch.
