best way to semi-permanently raise truck off floor

If it's a unibody car, a rotissarie is the best bet. But, your 53 is almost certainly a body on frame and I don't think that would lend itself too well to that. You could always fabricate a custom rig that the frame sets on that has 4 posts tied together.

Any engine builders out there? Compression ratio question

Oh boy. A lot of stuff here. Most of it close, but no cigar. Compression Ratio is the total volume of the cylinder, including combustion chamber volume, gasket volume (function of gasket diameter and thickness), volume from the top edge of the piston to the first ring, +/- dish/dome volume...

    Best Welder

Check out your local welding supply stores. If they don't have/carry used welders, they may know where one/some are available. I got mine this way. I bought a Hobart Ironman 250 for $750, cleaned, tested, and some worn parts replaced. A couple of weeks ago I found the same welder at Northern...

what do you guys do about shop rags?

I use the red shop rags you can buy a zillion places. I wash them when they are dirty. I discard them if they get soaked with anything (wet to the touch). When I wash them, I alway wash them by themselves. Sometimes I wash them twice to get the residue out of the washing machine. Sometimes...
