Thanks. After comparing a bunch of pictures today, I tend to agree, unfortunately. And I know you have a lot of experience with the large Wiltons.

Thanks for your eyeballs and opinions. I know we all love a vise mystery - especially with a potential great score. The bench is 2" and 4' deep. I bought the vise assuming I was finally going to get my 600, and will be picking it up next week. There was no measurement with the listing. Then I...

Opinions please, what number does that look like on that vise?

Preventing mold in the BBQ grill over winter, any tricks besides elbow grease?

It is a difficult problem. Since ceramic cookers are different, I'd also ask at a busy forum for those. My masterbuilt likes to get mold, even in summer. It is a challenge. One way to clean a grill is to get it very hot and spray it with water. Lang recommends that for their offset smokers. Not...

AWG and a snowblower. How necessary is it?

I've heard you can use a push lawnmower to blow snow, as long as you don't fall behind.

Any thoughts regarding the size and model of the Morgan Chicago? I can't quite make out the numbers. It looks like 6", maybe more?

I actually really like that this will greatly raise the bar on my vise collecting. Hopefully it will give me discipline to avoid Bad Choices™. And save space for lathes and other machinery. This will be my third Reed. The others are a somewhat worn 106, and a 105 with pristine jaws. I still...

Any thoughts regarding the age of this 208R, and original color? I'm beyond excited to pick it up next week. I'm hoping there will be a rigger with a fork lift to load it. It's in Southern Indiana.

Snapped static jaw towers? Were those hollow? The cutaway suggests only the dynamic tower is hollow. Hmm. Thank you for that interesting addition to vise lore, Bill.

You can check for the hollow area by removing the screw. I don't know if it is dependent on date, but am curious. My 70's era 4" and 4.5" Wiltons are hollow. It'd be really interesting to know if that was carried over from the York, or when it started. Weight is often equated with quality, so it...

Yikes. Just after I made that comment I recalled how I noticed that my Record has a lower pitch thread on the screw than those I have seen on other vises. So for a given amount of handle force, the clamp load is greater.

Nightshift: Nice pics, great job. Those Yorks look great. I am kicking myself for missing a York at auction (very rare up here) due to being out of town (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=568557&d=1468774644). But in defense, I did acquire a Reed 106R as a result and...

Thanks. It appears they were using the end of the vise column as a work stop (which is perhaps not a great sign). Just out of frame to the right is a stout bench mounted tool for cutting rod. The thickness of the material in the vise sets the length. I think maybe that C clamp could be a...

Good idea. I can think of a few options. You could take a mold of the R and and the O from the NO. You could do that with oil based clay, hot glue, etc. A two part molding Silicon would be ideal (make a dam around the characters using clay). Once you have your mold, there are a variety of...

Any thoughts regarding the mfg of this vise? I estimate it is a 5" or 6". I understand there are a number of well made Record clones, and far more that are junk. This vise looks more heavily built than many actual Records I see (of course looks don't always tell the tale). I see 5", 6", and 8"...
