Pole Barn Concrete Slab Insulation and Radiant Head

No question, insulate the whole thing. There's no more powerful heat sink than the earth. Your hydronic floor will never be efficient until it's fully insulated with 2" foam underneath and all around. It won't take long to forget the pain of paying for the insulation, after you start...

Congrats on getting it going again!:D

    Furnace Issue

You mentioned that you cut off the bad end of the wire. Is it clean from there on? You should be able to check continuity with an ohmmeter, from the clean end of the wire to the end of the spark 'plug' tip. Might not need to replace it. If you do need to replace, just use automotive spark plug...

    Furnace Issue

Please do keep us posted. Here's a diagram I just found of a furnace similar to yours. It has the same ignitor parts. So looking at this, it says the (3 wire) pilot switch 6H, at cold rest, should have the green and yellow wires in continuity. They are normally closed switch...

    Furnace Issue

Hi Doc, On further research, your style of ignitor is not a simple spark transformer, it's a complete standalone spark generator unit. Unless you're good at electronics, just testing with an ohmmeter won't tell you anything. You can however test whether the 24VAC is making it to the input...

    Furnace Issue

If your spark module (the black ignition module) had a burned out connection on top where the hi-tension lead went in, it probably has made an open circuit in that coil winding, caused by trying to spark with high resistance connections. Same as you'll burn out the ignition coil in your car if...

Condensing Boiler or just a boiler.

Yes you'll need a pit drain or something suitable. That was the big mistake that I made during my build. I tried draining through the buried eavestrough drains. Froze up. I've had to heat the drain using heater wire to deal with it. For reference, I'm in southern ontario, and it's relatively...

Finishing out walls in a pole barn, horizontal "purlins"

I did mine by notching the ends of horizontal 2x4's. Here's a pic.

Anyone use Muriatic Acid to Flush Radiators...?

I use Muriatic to etch copper and brass, and it is very aggressive. Can't believe it doesn't eat right thru a radiator, as thin as they are. Even a diluted mixture will eat down 0.040" in an hour's time during an etch. Also remember if you need to dilute, to add acid to water, not the other way...

    A Ferrari Showroom

Bravo! More power to guys like him. He keeps the whole business alive. Who cares if he knows what a spark plug is... there's guys like me that will happily put a set of plugs in for him. He obviously loves what he's doing so keep it up!

The World's Most Expensive John Deere Lawnmower

You should send John Deere a letter of thanks because they saved you from a deal that you would have regretted! My first house was less than 1000' feet from heavy freight tracks. Never saw or heard the train all the times we looked at the house, and we had 'first time buyer tunnel vision' of...
