4 post lift and transmission work

You can't put 4-5000lbs on a 2000 lb lift anyway. But yes, more weight will be on that end of the lift, the hydraulic pressure is the same but the front cables + pulleys + locks will bear more weight.

4 post lift and transmission work

You don't actually need to drive the whole car onto a 4 post ramp: 1. Back it onto the lift half way 2. Remove the ramps 3. Back it on a bit more so the front of the sills are just on the ramp 4. Parking brake on. 5. Jack up the front with a floor jack until the car is level. 6. Put blocks...

Finally LIFT! My 4 post install in my standard garage!

Thanks! I think a bottle jack is usual on a jacking tray but I don't know as mine didn't come with one. It's not so much the releasing but a 'catching again on the way down' issue if you haven't got the lever fully pulled over 100%. I found I'd managed to setup mine so the opposite corner's...

Finally LIFT! My 4 post install in my standard garage!

I'm in a similar situation, having just done exactly the same thing. You may have discovered already but here's what I learnt/did: The locking system. Should pushing the lever down, or up release the latches? I could find not specification for this, but when the ramp is down prop up/down the...

    Hi all from England

Managed to get a very nice jacking beam to go with the lift, Most I found were either hugely expensive or didn't have any useful pads/arms on them, until I found a Peak/Atlas one that did. No grease as standard so I used a bit of ACF50 to start and will grease it with molygrease at some stage...

    floor jacking

I had this problem with two vehicles, endless playing with 4x2's to lever it up to get a jack under was a nightmare. The solution I found works perfectly: a 4 post parking lift. Just driving it onto the ramp gives you 4-5" of height and even if you have a low ceiling - a low car like yours...

    Hi all from England

Thanks for the advice guys, I ended up with a 4 post lift - quite a common cheapy, the JH-4P3700 It tool a little fettling to get it working well - 5 straight days in fact! But it was cheap LOL. I had to 1) File out a hole for the stop switch 2) Extend the arm of the stop switch (drilling out...

    Hi all from England

I've browsed this forum before, but recently I decided that my life would be more complete with a 4 post lift in it, so after browsing the threads about that here I though I'd join up. So HI!! I've three old cars to keep going, I've got most of the usual stuff like a MIG, compressor + nut...
