    I'm warm now: Final Report

Since I solicited your advice earlier this fall, here's the final report. The propane company showed up today to make the connections to my Sterling Garage Guy. I went for this brand since the separated combustion is already part of the design -- you don't have to pay a whole lot more just to...

    Damn! I coulda had a....

The Sterling Garage Guy is already set up for outside air. All you need is to provide the venting. I just turned mine on for the first time today after the propane company made the final connections. I paid about $700 for the 75k BTU unit including shipping. I'll post a photo in a new thread.

    Separated combustion: worth it?

Well, Trevor, I guess that answers the question. I guess I just needed someone to confirm what my sensible self was telling my tightwad self. Considering how much it's going to cost for the heater and related junk, underground propane run from the nearby tank, and the building insulation, I...

    Separated combustion: worth it?

Thanks, guys. Yes, separated combustion means drawing combustion air from the outside. The Sterling Garage Guy heater comes made for that while the other brands require a different model at a much higher cost. The Sterling GG then only requires a concentric vent kit to make it separated. It's...

    Need sizing formula

Thanks, Sokoloff, I'll look for that. Sounds like just what I need. I've had all sorts of answers from wild guesses from salesmen to weird results from various Web sites that seem to be more appropriate for someone in Minnesota than here in relatively warm Central. Calif. Thanks again.

Find and fix black pipe leaks

Regarding poor quality pipe: For you who haven't yet started -- most of the pros I know rarely buy from the big box stores. Find out where they get their stuff and you'll probably get better quality. I have never been refused at any commercial supplier if I show up knowing what I want and with...

    Need sizing formula

I found a thread on this board with a sizing formula, but of course I can't find it now. I've been to a dozen Web sites and have come back with size answers ranging from 14K BTU to 155K BTU for the same space using the same data input. So can someone please point me to a formula to calculate...
