Growing up in my fathers pallet shop Ive shot quite a few coil nail guns at things other than wood. I don't know about the new ones but the old guns you could hold the head right and fire them on automatic. Ran off more than one scumbag that way, killed a couple birds too.

I always use the K&N oil filters, good filter plus it has a hex boss on the bottom (3/4" iirc), I just reach up with a stubby and spin her on and off, your son may need something bigger (no offense intended) but its by far the best design Ive seen for putting them on and off.
