    did you check that the relief isn't open some? We've gotten some for free that were"broken" and all they needed was the relief adjusted a bit.

    Is there such a thing as a good oil filter wrench?

    I always use the K&N oil filters, good filter plus it has a hex boss on the bottom (3/4" iirc), I just reach up with a stubby and spin her on and off, your son may need something bigger (no offense intended) but its by far the best design Ive seen for putting them on and off.
