You might try stripped romex wire and borax for flux.

I have the same welder with the same size and alloy wire in it and it spatters quite a bit. I think it may be because it is 100% co2 shield gas. I was told that the mix gas spatters less but i haven't tried it myself so i cant say for sure. I'm not certain but i think 3/4" is too far for the tip...
