    Brake spreader tool?

I have some 80's audis that have that sort of rear brake. They look like a normal piston, but have a hex shaped cutout in the middle of the piston. You put a allen socket in, and turn the piston while pushing back in. Very similar to all of the other rotate and retract brake calipers, just a...

What is the Longest you've had your Car on A Maxjax?

My 944 has been sitting on the lower stops of mine for about 3 weeks now due to some delays in the work I've been doing on it. No issues. I have some mid height jack stands I use when it's in the upper stops as extra insurance.

    Another Lift question.....

The anchors for the maxjax don't protrude from the floor. They're threaded socket type inserts. When the maxjax isn't installed, there will be threaded holes in the concrete. I'd want to put a plug or possibly a plastic bolt of some sort in the insert to keep it clean when it's not in use.

Did you even read the thread before you asked this question? He specifically talks about this in the very first post. It is NOT one time use.

    Napa tools 70% off

Arrgh. I had no idea. I don't frequent the place terribly often, as when I go in there normally I have to show the guy behind the counter how to look up audi parts on their computer system. I'll have to check it out soon. Thanks!

Which shops still have stuff around us Jerry? I was at the cleves store a short while back and didn't see anything marked down. I'm on the lookout for a good long pattern metric combo wrench set specifically, but I don't know if they'd have anything like that.

MaxJax on Sale at Costco Again

I got mine from Garage Equipment Supply during the group buy on here. Was a good experience and cheaper than costco on the group buy. I was ready to pull the trigger through costco before the buy was set up.

    Maxjax Installs: Post Here

I considered using an aerostar to get mine, and thankfully I did not (I used a rental Home Depot full size van). It's an awkward package for the terminal guys to pick up, so it is very difficult for a fork truck to load it lengthwise into a vehicle. A trailer that could be loaded from the side...

    Flare wrenches versus open ended?

On audi/vw brake systems, I've had terrible luck with anything other than flare nut wrenches. Even middle of the road ones will spread to some extent on an older car that hasn't had the brake system apart since manufacture. The fittings are brass or something similar, and end up rounding off...

Ball hex socket v. Regular hex socket

On bolts that are hard to access or difficult to seat, they're lifesavers. It seems to be quite easy to ruin a bolt head with a straight hex that way. Lot less likely to do so with a ball end.

Future Maxjax Group Buy - Interested?

Don't know. Good question. I do have a utility trailer I could use, but my car probably wouldn't tow it with the lift. Truck depots usually 9-5 monday-friday hours? That makes things more difficult as well.

Future Maxjax Group Buy - Interested?

I have a costco membership with the 3% back, so that eats up some of the savings. With no pickup truck, I'm stuck for the $130 extra too. I guess I could rent a home depot truck or something. Probably better off to just pay for the liftgate service.

Future Maxjax Group Buy - Interested?

So, $1879 with liftgate. No tax, correct? Costco is $1899, with shipping, but probably a similar charge for liftgate service, plus tax. That would run $2150 for me with our 6.5% sales tax in SW Ohio. So about $270 savings if I order one today.....

Did they apply sales tax, or an additional charge for liftgate service? $1750 out the door?

Is WD40 the best shield against rust for your tools?

From a quick google search: http://www.ballistol.com/ Looks like a european gun cleaner/lubricant. Looks like there are a few US dealers though.
