    Coachlights or Not?

Nope, I'm not within HRM. :canada: In fact, I'm kinda' in the woods and long, dark winter nights call for plenty of light in the yard.

    Coachlights or Not?

Yes, I did consider the fact that a coachlight would cast more light into the driveway (the garage is about 100' from the house). I just like the discreet look of the potlights. Maybe I could install both and wire them separately somehow; on a separate switch perhaps. Then, I'd have the...

    Coachlights or Not?

Building a detached 24' X 26' garage with an eyebrow over the twin garage doors. Going to have four potlights in the eyebrow soffit. Do you think a fella' needs coach lights on the face of the garage, too (in addition to the potlights)?

Ceiling Ht. Minimum, Garage Door Opener

'Jack shaft opener' Gonna' have to Google that. Garage opening systems are a totally unfamiliar territory for me.

Ceiling Ht. Minimum, Garage Door Opener

I was hoping to get by with a run of the mill stock door opening system. Also, when I say the garage will have an 8' ceiling; in reality it will be slightly higher (I think). Consider an 8' stud, a double top plate (3") and a double bottom plate (another 3"). So, at the end of the day, a...

Ceiling Ht. Minimum, Garage Door Opener

I've searched the forum and haven't found a definitive answer. Is there a minimum ceiling height when it comes to installing an overhead garage door opening system? For the garage I'm considering, it would have 9' x 7' twin garage doors and an 8' ceiling. I don't have any 'big' vehicles...

Nice looking Ghia! They truly were the 'poor man's Porsche'. One of the many reasons I'm building a garage this spring is to be able to tinker on my old Beetle. I remember as a teenager trying to jack up a Beetle with a floor jack on a gravel driveway...not a good idea.

    Loft Truss Span

For now, no plans for insulation or a heat source. I will throw some insulation in the corners where the studs meet. Maybe down the road I'll install an airtight woodstove and insulate.

Welcome, Ted! I'm new here, too! Check out my avatar. You and I share an interest in more than just garages. I have a '66 Beetle and my brother has a '74 Ghia. :rocker: My Beetle is one of the reasons that I'm building a garage. I have another brother who works in Valdosta (sadly, he...

    DIY: Security system..

Well, I don't have a garage...yet. :( It's in the works, though. However, I do have two German Shepherds that can come across as intimidating. They roam the property and keep the neighbours honest. They're great dogs. But if you're somewhere you shouldn't be...I pity the fool! :Mr.T:

    Loft Truss Span

Hey there, Rigpig. So what was your original plan for truss slope? More or less than 8/12? I'll try and search out your build thread on the site. Cheers (from the east coast, BTW)! Grug

    Loft Truss Span

Ok, now you folks have me thinking about access to the loft. I don't really want a fold up ladder. I'd like permanent stairs. I never thought how a 24" truss gap could affect a set of stairs. I'm assuming stair treads are about 36" (certainly more than 24"). Hmmm... :headscrat That's an...

    Loft Truss Span

Stuart, that image you included of your garage loft area is exactly what I'm looking for. Even the spaces between the trusses could be utilized for my many boxes of Christmas lights (just call me Clark Griswold) I'm assuming those trusses are 24" on centre? Bill, you referenced 'allowable...
