I have all my 3/8 drive sockets on top and they all fit well, My 1/2 inch stuff has to go in the bottom drawer of my top box as some of the deep wells are too tall to close the lid of the top box. I am not sure of the depth.

Attached are some photos of the lock mechanism on my middleboxes, There should be a slot in the crossbar and the bottom of the top drawer for the lock bar to go through. I got a complete lockset with different size bars at my local locksmith. Hope this helps.
Would need to see a picture of the entire box to know what you actually have. I would say you probably got a good deal as long as the condition is good ie no major rust.
Look in the drawer directly behind the Craftsman tag it should have a two digit year code. AMD was really good about that. I have a top box that I am doing a resto on that is a 56.
I cleaned up mine when I did a resto on my Dads old Remline. Chrome was peeling off so I nickel plated them myself. Very economical and turned out nice.
Bought this at an auction 3 years ago for $25. I didn't need it but couldn't pass it up. As soon as I got it home my wife said that she would really like it for her craft room but she didn't like the colors. Okay....I can change that. She decided on the colors she wanted and I started in on...
I saw the tracks you were talking about, no tray for it. I didn't even know that was a thing. Do you by chance have a picture of what that tray looks like?
Found a lost soul of a tool chest at an auction last week. Old AMD made Craftsman that is in desperate need of a full resto. Guess I found a project for this summer. Not bad for $25 and only missing the top tray.
