What is the advantage of the offset ??

I agree that a galvanized ****** with caps would do the job but the romantic in me would like to keep it authentic. In truth I'm really not sure what I'm going to do with it as I have two already that I use on a regular basis.

Does anyone know if this would have come originally with a wooden handle ?? If so I'm going to have to find someone with a lathe so I can replace it.

I just found this Columbian vise today in a recycle store for $40. I'm very happy with it even though I don't actually need another one.

I know there is no right or wrong but I'm in the unpainted & unrestored camp. I just clean, lube & use.

I have four vises in my shop/garage, three wood & one metal. I have already talked about the two Columbians but I also have a small Dawn #7 Australian Record which I probably use more than anything else & what I think is a Craftsman 4 in swivel vise. The tag is missing so I can't say for sure !!

Yes, I really enjoy the way the vises look & the handles really make it. Both vises work very well. I have them both set up on a movable bench & it allows me to work on long pieces of wood.

Hello. I have a bit of a stupid question but I have 2 Columbian 10in woodworking vices that I absolutely love but I can't fathom what the slide mechanism on the front of them does.
