Any updates on how this is going for you?

Pegboard...is it really the way to go?

Doesn't look cluttered to me - in fact it looks very neat and organized. I never really considered dust accumulating on shop tools as being an issue, but a couple of you have mentioned that now, so maybe it is something to consider. For me the biggest issue I was thinking was the tools...

    Insulation Question

For what it's worth, I had a small patch of condensation forming between the insulation and vapour barrier that I noticed just before drywalling this past summer. It was only a very small patch and it was located near an electrical box. I know this doesn't answer your issue, but just...

    Adding storage to attic.

If the bottom chord of the truss is made of 2x4 then I would be cautious about how much weight you store in the attic. If it's made of 2x6 then you should have no issue. The fact that the truss is resting on a wall in the middle(?) makes a significant difference however.

Pegboard...is it really the way to go?

Lots of good replies here...thanks guys. I never realized there would be so many against pegboard. My plans for using it would be for a small section of wall that butts up to my workbench. I thought it would be a well organized system for quick/easy access to wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers...

Pegboard...is it really the way to go?

It seems like every other guy has pegboard up in his shop in some capacity. Wondering if it really is the cat's pajamas, or is there a better alternative? If you could do it over would you approach organizing tools-on-wall a different way? To me it seems like the best use of wall space as a...

    Best plan for a 24 x 26 garage?

A 2x6x8 costs $5.05 here in British Columbia. A 2x4x8 costs $3.65 - a difference of $1.40 each. I used approximately 90 pieces for my build, but we'll round it up to 100 to keep it simple. That's a savings of $140 to build the walls out of 2x4 instead of 2x6. My detached garage cost me just...

    Best plan for a 24 x 26 garage?

I'm nearing the finishing stages of my 24 x 26 detached garage. I went with 2x6 studs, and wouldn't have even considered 2x4. The small difference in price when taking shouldn't be a factor...I don't believe in skimping a structural components. I went with one garage door on mine (9x8)...

    Garage insulation

Geez, I never even thought vapour barrier could be an issue. I insulated my detached garage, then put vapour barrier, then drywall, then paint. Didn't really think much of it. I have Tyvek with Hardie board installed for siding.

Can workbench be mounted to wall to save on posts?

Yes, that's a similar layout to what I had in mind - even the L shape. I know this design can support the weight, as can others without any legs at all, but my concerns is how they handle a pounding. Nothing more annoying then things rattling around. But from what I've read I don't believe...

    Gargage door opener suggestion

I just installed the Liftmaster 8355W. The distributor I bought the garage door from recommended Liftmaster, stating that they never have to warranty them. I've been happy with it so far.

Can workbench be mounted to wall to save on posts?

Thanks for the replies guys. Good point jonshonda...I never thought about stuff rattlin around on pegboard.

Can workbench be mounted to wall to save on posts?

Approaching the workbench phase of my garage/shop build. Was thinking I could save on posts by fastening a horizontal 2x4 to the wall studs for the 'backside' of workbench...the front of the workbench would still be supported by 4x4 posts. My question for those who have done this does it...

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT I have no idea what I'm doing: A 26x26 shop build.

I can honestly say I've never seen that before - seems very sloppy to me. I'm not sure why a contractor would think they can get away with doing something like that. If the stud was cut too short, they should have just put it aside to use for smaller cuts, and took a new one. I'd be saying...

    Workbench depth

Some good info on this thread. I'm at the workbench (against wall) building stage of my shop too, and was recently wondering about workbench height/depth dimensions. Seems like it's a 50/50 split on 24" vs 30" for depth. I'm 5'11" and thinking I may just split the difference and go with 28".
