Here's a follow-up. The 11/16" internal snap rings do the job. And they appear to fit all my examples of the Craftsman 1/4" ratchet except the -V- series, which uses a completely different type of snap ring.

First, finding the lost snap ring will prove difficult. It's likely behind an old metal two-piece toolbox that has shelves build around it on three sides and shelved built in the top of it. Plus, the space behind it and beside it, against an outer wall, is a winter home for squirrels. Remember...
