    Interesting Japanese wrench

It's not mis-labeled. It's for the "new" and "old" Whitworth bolts. WW bolts are sized by the shaft, not the head. At some point someone decided that WW bolt heads were too large, so in came the "new" WW bolts with smaller heads.

    I broke my vice yesterday

I'm not seeing any poor quality in manufacture. Perhaps the DESIGN could have been with a thicker section holding the screw and jaws. But the quality of manufacture appears to be just fine. I'm not seeing any gaps or fills. Also appears to be a light duty vise.

    JIS Screwdriver suggestions needed.

Vessel Megadora 980 JIS impact screwdriver is a must have. Now that I have the Wera's, it's rare I pull it out, but I wouldn't want to be without it. And for $12 how can you go wrong? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003BGZ9CO/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    JIS Screwdriver suggestions needed.

My set was purchased about 7-8 months ago and I couldn't be happier. Haven't had even a hint of slippage on carbs that would routinely give me headaches. I no longer feel like I have to switch all my carbs to hex.

What's your favorite "off" brands for tools.

Generally, I buy SK & Proto for tools I'm serious about. When I need something that I'm not going to use very much at all, it's often Tekton or Pittsburgh. If I find myself using those tools often, then I'll upgrade.

    Vise ID request

In the gunsmith business we refer to them as a Parrot Vise. They can be quite useful depending on what you're working on and what your needs are.

    JIS Screwdriver suggestions needed.

My son's 2018 dirt bike has a Keihn carb with JIS screws holding the bowl on. If Japan stopped making them umpteen years ago, then Keihn and Mikuni musta had warehouses full of them. I work mostly on motorcycles, and I don't see this delima going away in my lifetime.

    JIS Screwdriver suggestions needed.

I have Vessel and it's okay. But the reason people are typically seeking out a JIS screwdriver is because they're using a Phillips and ruining the screw head when the driver slips. Sound about right? Well, I have found the best solution isn't a Vessel JIS (but that's better than a...

SK DT120 1/4" drive upgrade kits?

I upgraded my 3/8" ratchets, but I just didn't see any need to upgrade the 1/4" as I think they're perfect just the way they are.

    School me on Dial Indicators

The dial indicators at Harbor Freight are good tools. They are accurate and surprisingly durable. I have started using them almost exclusively, and my Starrett's have all gone back in my box so I don't have to worry about breaking or damaging very expensive Starrett's.

    With All The SK Talk

I have the black chrome version of the Proto's, and they are my favorite wrenches period. The ASD open end is VERY effective, and it doesn't mark up fasteners. The spline design is faceted rather than rounded, so it bites in and acts like an ASD on the box end, and again; it's pretty...

    Chinese Steel and Mfg

China is capable of producing pretty much anything they want. They have the ability to machine optics and plutonium for nukes; they can do anything. The issue is more about market. China tends to not make top tier stuff because people are unwilling to pay for top tier stuff that says Made...

    bench top metal lathes

No idea what you actually use a lathe for, but my two Atlas bench top lathes (10x42) have served me quite well. Both were made in the 1940's, they are multi-speed/multi-pulley for a wide range in speeds** Contrary to internet experts, Atlas lathes hold up very well and the fact that they're...

    Mustang sockets ?

WOW, that's some vintage American iron; cool! Yeah, my Mustang sockets look very similar, but mine have no rust. The 13/16 spark plug socket I have is the longest one in my tool box, and I prize that thing. WHAT A GREAT DEAL... Last thing I need is more sockets and ratchets, but I wouldn't...
