Can certainly recommend CUT-IT drilling paste, contains extreme pressure additives and has been tested to destruction https://ttp-hard-drills.com/videos/cut-it-falex-test/?v=7885444af42e
A variable speed drill press is essential if drilling different metals.
Check out drill bit speed charts before drilling or if unsure drill slow and only increase speed if you feel you can. Speed and pressure are the enemy of drilling metals as it quickly increases temperature and can damage...
Probably late to the party but my thoughts are similar to many before, avoid HSS and go for cobalt. They do however need to be used with care as cobalt increases brittleness (5% cobalt should be fine but 8% is more brittle). Top tips would be
Drill slow (or at least not too fast)
Only use...
Have to say I have had good reports on them provided you take the time to read the instructions and be patient. Even if you don't get them 100% if it keeps you drilling it has to be a good thing as drill bits can be expensive.
In my experience many don't take care of them in the first place ...
I would love to know if anyone can recommend a drill bit sharpener that is easy to use. Of particular interest is sharpening 135deg split point cobalt.
I have not tried any but seems users reviews are so varied when it comes to ease of use.
1. Drill slow
2. Go easy on the pressure
3. Use plenty of lubricant
4. Take breaks to prevent the bit overheating
Follow above rules and you will get best results for any drill bit
Treat yourself to a good set of cobalt drill bits
