Killing invasive vines with a turkey injector

I had 2 small trees that I cut down, and they kept sending fresh shoots up around the edge of the stump. I drilled a couple 1/2" holes in each stump and poured a bit of Tordon in each hole. They haven't even thought of growing since. I like that stuff.

Second guessing in floor heat for 30x40 shop

That picture was taken 20 years ago. It looks much more "used" now. I'm still using the same Solaronics tube heater.

Second guessing in floor heat for 30x40 shop

I have to agree with jpaw, there is nothing quite like radiant heat and the radiant tube heaters work! and the price is probably less than any other system. There are radiant tube heaters now that are UL listed for home garages with a 10' ceiling. I would still put in the pex and...

Does anyone regret installing high bay lighting in their shop?

I have a barn that is 32X40 and 14' ceilings. I went with the UFO-looking round LED high bay (aka "stadium lights" on ebay) that I bought on EBAY. I used 6 in total, and paid about $50 each when I installed them. That was probably 7-8 years ago. They still work fine, plenty of light, left me with...

Miracle Truss - Closed their doors

They're baaaaaaaAAAACK! Looks like they are up and running. I have seen them on other websites,so I decided to do a search. https://miracletruss.com/ From the "Our Story" section: "What do you do when you love the company you work for and they close in the middle of your career? You combine...

Where do you get your bolts?

I buy lots of Metric hardware from Kimball-Midwest. I use the JIS hardware for Toyota repair, and their flanged hardware is awesome. For SAE stuff, there is a surplus/salvage company with many stores around here, and they sell by the pound. I also buy the nylon locknuts at automotive swap meets at...

Building a mezzanine in my barn

Thanks for the info. It appears that steel or LVL would both be way too big and likely too expensive. I think I will use the post and come up with the most convenient split instead of having it in the center.

Building a mezzanine in my barn

You're right. I wasn't thinking about that scenario. Point taken. I think that clear span should always be the primary goal. You never know what the future uses might be,and a post might not work. Has anybody ever looked a a wide open space and said,"Yeah,it's OK,but it would be better if...

Adding onto 40x60 for RV :)

Looks like an awesome addition-keep the pictures coming! I have a 36' motor home and it fits very nicely in my 32x40 barn. We went with the traditional sliding barn doors, centered like the old drive thru barns, and at the last possible minute I had my brother-in-law contractor make the front...

Building a mezzanine in my barn

I want to build a mezzanine on the wall opposite the stairs. The barn is 32x40. Is it possible to do this 40' and have it clear span? I have some lumber to put up there,so all the heavy stuff will be on the corner by the back door (shown). The lumberyard engineers want to put a post in the...

    Second story workspace

My second story is a semi-open mezzanine. I have plenty of engine stuff stored up there, and I use a cheap-o Harbor Freight winch to get it up there. I used a piece of pipe with old GM wheel bearings welded to each end so it will pivot. I welded a boom onto the pipe and braced it,and then mounted...

    Lets see your workbench

I built this for my repair shop using 2 Craftsman boxes and some 1 1/2" x 3" rectangular steel.

    Tube radiant garage heaters

I have one in my 36 x 50 garage and I love it. It doesn't take up any floor space, heats the objects instead of the air, keeps the concrete warm so my feet are warm, and feels like the sunshine on my back while working on cars. I keep my garage at 68-70º all winter (Maine) with around 800 gallons...

Please advise - bad contractor messed up my concrete floor

I had a 32x40 slab done several years ago and it looked just like yours. We were just building a barn for storage,so I wasn't going for any special look. As the years have gone by,the appearance has continued to evolve,to the point that it is now a color I would call "medium gray" on over 95% of...
