Shop build, wall is out of plumb

I'm getting about split even advice it seems between fix it right and leave it be don't risk it. I don't think it's off enough to be a long-term safety risk, and it will be a pain either way, fixing it or having to deal with it during the interior finish. Cost is sadly a factor for me at this...

Shop build, wall is out of plumb

It was a cash deal, not much recourse, other than he has probably lost business from the contractor that recommended him now. I know, I know, I'm piling on the mistakes. I let myself get rushed for weather and the personal reasons for getting it built as quickly as possible. Cheap, fast...

Shop build, wall is out of plumb

Hi all, lots of good points and appreciate the conversation. The points about the roof are what have led me to just live with it. It is locked in solid already, and trying to move the wall would torque that end of the roof I think. It will be a constant reminder as I finish out the inside for...

Shop build, wall is out of plumb

Oof. Believe me, the anxiety and beating myself up over this, hopefully this thread keeps someone from the same fate. I’m talking with a brick mason, and there is a ray of hope. He is saying a 4” air gap is doable. I would need to get a wider brick ledge poured, but that’s ok. I would still...

Yeah, I get it, will probably need some of that too. My last idea of just moving the corners won’t work, the soffit bracing is already attached to the wall, so the wall can’t move unless the roof moves with it, so the whole thing needs to go as a unit. Ugh.

Not quite following what you mean by pillars, do you mean the main building corners? I thought about just loosening the side wall top from the end wall top plate overlap, then pulling just the one corner in, pushing the one corner out. If I did that, the left corner would lose half of its...

It’s the brick that makes it an issue; with 3 inches of lean I’d end up with 4-5 inches of air gap over most of the right side wall

Oh and yes, bottom plates are all bolted down well, I used more bolts than required, 12 inch j bolts placed in the pad during the pour. The bottom plates all align to the corners of the pad, so it’s the top that has to move.

Yes, planning on cutting the nails, using a recip saw and oscillating with a nail blade, did some tests and both cut pretty easily. The HOA issue is a mess. I’m in Phase 1, bought the house because an HOA was never formed. I do have deed restrictions, but they’ve never been enforced. Phase 2...

I appreciate all the advice, I’ll be waiting until after predicted storms on Monday and diving in, slowly and carefully. Any last minute advice is welcome, and I’ll report back after.

Your words are solidly ringing true about being forever in my mind for sure. And yes, pretty disappointed they just nailed away and didn't help get it straight -- his response "that wasn't what you asked me to do". I'm not even going to mess with trying to get him back to help at this point...
