When I built mine I had the electrician run all the basic wiring before insulating, then install surface mount box so addons could be run through conduit.

Unless you really want to diy this, you might want to check some plating companies near you they can work wonders with some of the old metalic parts that need reworked. Pauls Crome Plating is one that a lot of car restorers use, while not cheap they do amazing work
