Some Vintage Pipe Wrenches, anyone collect them?

Concerning the Carll wrench; Thursday at an estate sale, I got this 6 inch adjustable wrench with reversible jaw, that turns it into a pipe wrench. I've never seen one before. I didn't know why it had teeth under the lower jaw until I looked it up on the internet and discovered that the upper...

    Mephisto Tools

I got these pliers at an estate sale last week. They have the feel of a quality tool, and the cutting jaw is in good shape. After cleaning, I could read Mephisto. Never heard of it. After seeing this thread, I'm excited to add it to my plier collection.

What grit should I use to sand some rusty pliers?

Hi. Here's what works for me pretty good. I go over the tool with a wire wheel on a bench grinder. I don't think a small wheel on a drill will be as aggressive, so it may take you longer to get the surface rust off. Clamping the tool in a vise will help you get more aggressive with the wheel...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I recently acquired a pretty clean 1966 red & gray box with the V logo. Concerning the lower roll-around box, how is the lock removed? I was thinking of taking the lock to a smith and having it keyed, or re-pin it myself if I can find a blank. I removed the Cotter pin from the back-side of the...

    Palmer Brothers Tool Co.

Interesting detail here. My Palmer 201 slip locking pivot plier has scollops on one side of the slip joint. Scollops on both sides of the slot are shown in the 1939 patent, in a Sep 1953 ad in Popular Science, and in the photo earlier in this thread. Strange that mine is different.

Toolbox Refinishing - The "Barn Find" Look

Here's my story. I have been collecting vintage mechanic tools for about a year and a half, mostly from estate sales. I saw this this tool cabinet on a for-sale-ap. it looked old, and it was only $30. I need a place to store my collection so I picked it up. It's Snap On. The top box had a...
