    Roof Leak

I had the same problem that you have with a roof. Ten years a go I used the Henry brand roof cement to seal a leak and it looks as good now as it did 10 years ago and has never leaked. They have two types. One has a 10 year warranty and the other has a lifetime warranty. Both are supposed to...

Bolt seizes when theaded into welded nut.

I used a flux core welder with .030 wire with the machine set for 1/8 inch steel. I plan to get a new tap and try it again. This is a course threaded nut. I have been doing this for years and never had a problem before. Its a real mystery.

Bolt seizes when theaded into welded nut.

Spot welded a 1/2 inch grade 8 steel nut to 11 gauge steel plate. Spot weld only lasted 1/2 second. Inserted a dowel rod into the nut to keep spatter out of threads. Ran a tap thru the nut several times after the weld. Applied anti seize lube to the threads of the bolt. Bolt was difficult...

post hole keeps filling up with water

I have dug two post holes 3 feet deep by 10 inches in diameter for a 10 foot steel post, to attach a gate to block access to my garage. With just a little rain, both holes filled up with water. I pulled the water out 3 times with a shop vac but the water keeps coming back. The soil is 100%...

    Is there an Argon shortage??

I called the only welding supply house in my town today and they told me they could not supply me with argon. When I asked when they would get more, I was told a date could not be given and to call back in 7 to 10 days. This is in north Alabama. Has anyone else had trouble getting argon for...

How do I get a "big box store" floor?

I also admired the concrete floor at Wal-Mart. I found out the company that made the finish and contacted them about putting that same finish in my garage. I have seen fork lifts, heavy traffic, and all kinds of mistreatment so I thought that this would be a good choice. The company e mailed...

    A non garage related question

I have run into this exact same problem, and what I did was to cut off the old posts with a cut off wheel with a 4 inch angle grinder near the base, buy new posts and cut to the correct length, **** the new post to the base of the old post and weld them together. I spot welded it in several...

    Epoxy primer opinions and options

I have used the epoxy primer from Summit Racing with great results. I have painted 4 cars in the past 5 years by grinding the old paint off, applying the epoxy, then the 2k, sanded that, then the base and clear. I had two fenders from a utility trailer that was covered with 100% rust. Sanded...

Best way to fill large hole in fiberglass car body

I agree with 383 240Z. If the paint is not pealing or showing other signs of degradation, I would not try to remove it, especially with blasting. You can get the media imbedded into the fiberglass and cause all kinds of problems. The prep stage can depend on how many coats of paint you are...

Which air tools are better than electric?

I agree that in most situations air tools are the way to go, but I have found one exception to that rule. After you have painted a car and you want to polish the clear coat an electric buffer is much better than the air equivalent. The 9227 Makita buffer is what I use because you can buff at a...

I have repaired a lot of fiberglass corvette bodies and here is what has worked for me. 1. Get a professional paint respirator and goggles that completely cover your eyes. Get some old clothes and some rubber gloves to protect your hands. Fiberglass is dangerous stuff so protect yourself...

Birmingham, AL people, how hard was it to build your shop?

I don't live in the Birmingham, Ala area but I have built two garages in another city and I can tell you about my experience. You don't mention if you are going to build this yourself or hire it out. In my area if you hire it out the builder will get all the permits. Also in my area only the...

I researched welding helmets on the internet for two weeks and finally decided on the Jackson True Sight II. It has the best of everything. Large viewing area, clearest lens with Balder technology, 4 sensors, uses the common AAA batteries, 5 year warranty, weld grind and cut mode. Everything...
