    Extending a lean-to shed

If you build a gable roof perpendicular to the house on the addition it will require two valleys . You can first build your shed walls and then hand build some rafters to fit and use a ridge beam that connects onto the existing house roof. you will have to strip the shingles on the house roof to...

    Improving Floor Heat System

So I have been running a in floor heat set up in my garage for about 15 yrs now in Southern Saskatchewan. Garage is 22x36 x10' walls.Mine runs off of a gas NG water heater. I used the cut out scraps from exterior doors to insulate my slab edges and under the slad as well. A local door...

Can I use a 220V LED fixture here in the U.S.?

If they are not UL rated and approved for use in the US they would violate any codes anyways and likely void your insurance if there was ever a problem and they could trace it back to those lights. They should not be used.

    Blank Slate

The biggest issue is aluminum is softer and weaker than copper and its actually a poor electrical conductor. Other factors are that it heats up much...

    Blank Slate

I notice you have no main breaker in your panel, is this a sub panel? Also I see there are many aluminum wires. With the main power shut off be sure and tighten all of those connections . Aluminum wire tends to loosen up over the years. It is also recommended that you do not join aluminum and...

From horse barn to rod shop!

Oh , I see that makes more sense now. Wow I thought you guys got concrete really cheap down there.

    Blank Slate

Looks like a good space you have there. I would move the water heater out of the garage all together. You plan on having some work space and a gas heater pilot light is just asking for a reason to cause an explosion, especially down near the floor level. Fumes from gas in the car tanks, paint...

From horse barn to rod shop!

Wow, 60x40 at 4" thick and only $3375? is that labour only? Up here the concrete would be about 6K by itself. Great project BTW! I love old barns!

Wow this should be a great build Mike, you and your wife purchased some awesome property there! I just found your thread and as I read along with what was already posted I was waiting for the part where you went to apply for a permit and the city shut you down because of the size.
