    Welding protection

Let me know if I missed a thread that covers this somewhere, but I'm looking for ideas to protect one area from another (metal to wood). I've got one bay approximately 12'x40 dedicated to wood and metal with a garage door at one end and a service door about 10 feet from it. I want to put wood...

    Rustoleum Basement vs Garage

Good question. I'm not home until this weekend again, but I'll check then. They publish technical specs on the products on their site, but I can't get them to load for some reason.

    Rustoleum Basement vs Garage

As a follow up to my own question, I called them today and they stated that the formulas are different and I will need the garage product. I'm not sure whether this is the truth or just the scripted response, but I'm not sure I'm going to gamble.

    Rustoleum Basement vs Garage

I found a deal I couldn't pass up on Rustoleum epoxy, the main problem is that I was so excited at the deal I didn't realize I was buying the "Basement" version.:lol_hitti The technical specs PDF on the site seems to be broken so I can't figure out what the difference is. Anyone had any...

    Skylights on a Metal Roof

I do like these in the uninsulated bays, but this part of the barn will be clean and insulated. I'd like a more finished look.

    Skylights on a Metal Roof

I'm no expert, but they haven't leaked in a year. I simply sealed the edges with silicone and screwed them down the same as the metal roofing. I used 2" overlap.

    Skylights on a Metal Roof

Couldn't agree more with the light, I'm sure what little money I paid for them I've already gotten back in electric. I suspect they are not a forever option, but if they last 12-15 years then I'm happy. Here's a pic without any lighting from the winter time in New England (read: little sun)

    Skylights on a Metal Roof

Anyone done it? What vendor did you use and did you use their flashing? I've been looking at the Velux 150 that fits perfectly in a 22.5" (Miracle Truss building) bay, but the skylight is $150 and the flashing is $179. :wtf: Any other ideas? I really want more light, but I'd prefer to keep...

    building carriage doors

Yes on the pipes (conduit), simple but effective since it's dirt outside. I planted a couple of small PVC pipes in the ground to receive them. If the barn was solid, I would keep the design, but still hate the snow part. The idea was not overbuild the frame, but rather use a tight skin on...

    building carriage doors

To answer your question on how I like them, there are several things I would do differently: -Do or Don't. In between *****. I should have dug up the 4"x6" PT foundation of the door and poured a concrete footing an apron. The frost pinches the doors so badly that you have to push them hard...

    building carriage doors

Here is the finished inside view. I really like the transom window. Also, you can see the inner supports here.

    building carriage doors

Here is a detail of the inside of the doors before insulation and the locking mechanism. It's aluminum rod with a modified cam offset stolen from some other project. Can't remember what these were originally for.

    building carriage doors

Tech, I replaced an aging 8x7 them to fit my 1ton inside an aging barn. It was meant to be a short term fix anyway, but it's lasted a while. The overall design is more aircraft style with a small frame and tight skin. The frame is 2x3 with a beadboard plywood and luan inside. I didn't...

    building carriage doors

I built some about the same size that swing open a few years ago and hate them. Here in Mass, we get enough snow that I have to shovel out a 12x5 area before I can open them.

    Garage Door screens

Can't find it in the Skymall catalog, although there are several other interesting garage related things in there. (http://skymall.com) Did find this with a quick search though from here.
