Judging by the 4 jaw chuck that came with it, it is a threaded spindle, but it does appear to have a locking spanner style nut between the head stock and the chuck that is on the lathe. It did not come with a spanner wrench of any sort though. I just snagged a copy of "Running a Regal" off of...

This was in a bucket along with various odds and ends. Remember, I'm not a machinist, just a guy with a new hobby. Any idea what it is or what it's for? The inside is hollow on the bottom, kind of like a very large candle snuffer.
