Same here. I use my red HF wire strippers alongside these snap-on crimpers. Maybe my crimpers were bad out of the box but I could never get them to strip 18 gauge wire cleanly. :dunno: I assume were talking about these strippers, right?

They look much better without color. I've had a set of these for about 5 years and have been happy with their performance but you can imagine what they look like now. I'll wire brush them the first chance I get.

Pounding a sacrificial cheapo socket over the allen bolt head and using a ratchet on that socket has worked very well for me. Obviously this works best where you have room to hit the socket onto the bolt but this method has saved in the past.
