    Anyone heat with coal boiler

I have been running a Keystoker KA-6 coal fired stoker boiler for 10 years. When I bought it Rice coal was $85 a ton, today picked up at the breaker in Tamaqua Pa. $195 a ton. Still the cost per BTU of coal is about half of the cost of NG in my area (south east Pa). This unit has run flawlessly...

    1/2" or 7/8" PEX tubing????

One nice thing I like about 7/8 pex is it is spaced 16" oc soooooooo..... when you want bolt down equipment , like a lift or 2, machinery, air comp. ect. you have half the limitations you would with 1/2" pex spaced 8"oc. In my living areas I would use 1/2" pex, the shop is a work area always...

    Please help, floor not draining.

Have you considered a dehumidifier for a quick fix. During the spring when my heat is not running and before I turn the Air Cond on, my basement is aways damp. I run a dehumidifer with a small floor fan to circulate the air. My wife says she doesn't use the close dryer because the close dry so fast.

    Coal heat?

A 50 gallon barrel of anthracite rice coal would probably heat my house and garage when the outside temp is 0 degrees F, keeping it a nice comfy70 degrees F inside, for more than a week! I got wood but I heat with coal.

    Anyone cut in foundation vents?

If you mean concrete masonary unit you can easily drill a series of holes verry close to one another with a hammer drill and a carbide masonary bit, But not Brick. Your better off renting a core-bore drill with a daimond bore tool. the boring tools are avilable in many different diamaters from...

    Ghetto AC for Garage....

I think Freon refers to any of a group of chemically unreactive chlorofluorocarbons used as aerosol propellants, refrigerants, and solvents. In the 80's we used it to clean semi-conductor wafers in liquid form.

    Boiler sizing for radiant heat

Have you considered using a coal fired boiler? You are right on the edge of the Suidi Arabia of of Anthracite coal country. EFM and Keystoker are 2 local boiler manufactures in your area. They make residential boilers from 75,000 to 250,000BTUs. I have been using a Keystoker boiler for the last...

Pex size - whats the current rage?

I currently have a 150,000BTU coal fired stoker boiler, so my hot water is already in place. With the house and shop my figures indicate that I will consume approx. 105,000 of them, the left over BTU's I plan to use for snow melt. I hate snow removal. Other than that I'm just plain CHEAP...

Pex size - whats the current rage?

If we could get back to the original post, RTcat was heating a shop. I am also in the prosess doing a 48x16 shop with 3/4 pex so I can space the tubing farther apart because I have equipment I will be bolting to the concrete. I'm using 2" insulation around the block walls and 2" in the floor...

    Boiler question

Did you consider extending the existing pipe by adding a 90* elbow and run the pipe up the outside of the house above the roofline, and terminate away from the window? I have a 94+ gas furnace, and I wood move both. My furnace came with a termination kit.

    Plastic under outdoor concrete?

In the 25+ years as a landscape contractor I have never used, or heard of any other contractor use plastic under sidewalks. There are some good performance points to this thread, but I see no point in using plastic under concrete outdoors.

Any issue with reusing pavers for new patio

You do not have to spend a lot of time cleaning the pavers, just knock the mud off the sides and bottom with a hand trowel. Prepare your base, (Verry Important) 4" Compacted of 3/4" stone then screet 1" of concrete sand on top of the compacted stone, and lay the pavers. For best results compact...
