I grew up on a farm and have always been interested in machinery and fixing things. I trained as an engineer, and have worked in research for almost 30 years now. When I was younger I also apprenticed for a time as a carpenter, took some training in cabinet and furniture making, and have spent the last few years 'self-educating' as a machinist. I have a small woodworking shop in my garage and a small, but pretty well equipped machine shop. I like restoring and using old tools, and recently finished restoring a small 1940s vintage tractor. I also have horses and enjoy riding and packing in the backcountry.
