Alternate uses for heat shrink tubing

I used some different colored heat shrink tubing to identify my metric allen wrenches. I've also marked a couple of allen screw heads with the same color paint so I can grab the right size the first time.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Garage Refurb®

Re: garage refurb Are you going to put doors on this bench? I had a bunch of bins like that for hardware & they always ended up with sawdust, metal shavings & just general dust in them. I'm using some plastic Stack-on cabinets with drawers from K-mart now. I like them much better. They...

    Is this a good idea?

I decided against doing the channel. I'm just going to get up in the attic & fish the wires down since I have to run wires up there to go to the ceiling lights anyway. I'm also going to blow in some fiberglass insulation in the walls & attic above the garage after I get the wires in. I bought...

    Is this a good idea?

I really didn't want to mess with drywall mud & tape & all that. I've never done any drywall repair before. Plus I didn't want to have to repaint all the walls to get the paint to match. I was thinking if I used the trim to cover the hole in the drywall I could get in there later on & add more...

    Is this a good idea?

Yes the one wall is adjacent to the house, so I guess that means I'll be better off fishing the wires through the wall from the attic. That's going to be a pain. I guess I'll have to rip up part of the attic floor & drill down into the wall cavity after all. I'll just put the insulation in the...

    Is this a good idea?

I don't want to run surface mounted conduit. I will have to sell this house in a few years & I want it to look finished. In the attic there is a floor over the garage & there is a bunch of stuff stored up there. I'd have to move all that stuff first & then get the floor up. Plus the roof...

    Is this a good idea?

I bought a new house (built in 2007) this spring & I only have one outlet in the garage. The garage walls are finished with drywall & painted. I want to do as much work as possible myself to add additional outlets in the garage. I don't want to have to redo the drywall & dropping the wiring...

    ceiling fan in garage

In my garage I installed two used indoor ceiling fans I picked up at a garage sale. I mounted them without the drop down poles directly to the existing light fixture box. The fans hang down about a foot total with the lights in them. The blades are maybe six inches from the ceiling. I live in...

If you were building a 20x24 detached what would you add????

Think about how you want to finish the floor. If you are in a cold climate you will want to install either a radiant floor heater or a forced air system for heat. Before you poor the concrete slab is when you decide to go for a radiant floor; not after. You don't have to buy the heater, but...

If you were building a 20x24 detached what would you add????

Build a separate lawn & garden room onto the garage, so the riding lawn mower, weed eater, the wheel barrow, shovels, ranks & kids bikes or sleds or whatever isn't taking up so much space that you can't even get your car in the garage.

If you were building a 20x24 detached what would you add????

Build a small separate room/ closet for the air compressor that way when the air compressor is running you can still think. Those things are loud. You can plum air lines out to different parts of the shop . If you want you could put the air line up through the ceiling & use hose reel dropping...

If you were building a 20x24 detached what would you add????

Make sure the roof is high enough that you can get your tow vehicle up on ramps & still be able to open its hood with out it hitting the ceiling or the overhead lights / ceiling fan. Also make sure the roof is high enough so that you have at least a few feet of storage space up in the rafters...
