Thank you. I looked at the NHB-55 also. Just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra thousand for a boiler vs the Takagi. The radiant company that I'm talking to actually stands behind the Takagis even though Takagi doesn't for a "closed" loop system. They will for an open loop system but...
Thanks for clarifying. I did look back through electric bills and yes, it's around $.04-$.05/kWh now but it has been as high as $.13kWh at points in previous years. I realize LP is going to vary too but it can usually be bought ahead for under $2/gal. The BTUs needed for the shed was around...
A 3x heat pump "come" changes things when what is above $2.25? LP? You're losing me here. And with all due respect, I'm wondering why EVERYONE around me is using LP to heat their floors and the HVAC guys I have talked to have steered me away from using electric also. Must be something to that.
As far as the electric cost, yes, there is a transmission fee of $.026/kWh so no, not under 3 cents all together. LP here is $1.13/gal now which comes out to $.24/kWh since 1gal=27kWh. And you're going to get more BTUs out of the LP. My friends shop is bigger at 42x64 but his is spray foamed...
I take that back. The first 16kWh is $.098/kWh then it goes down to $.027/kWh. Over 39.45kWh is $.039/kWh for winter rate. A friend of mine ran his floor heat off an electric boiler and he ended up putting in LP radiant heaters cause the cost to run electric was too high
Has anyone used the Radiant Floor Company in Barton, Vermont for their floor heat needs? I'm thinking about purchasing a pre built single zone radiant panel from them. They pre build and pressure test them for different zones and also sell different heat sources. Thanks in advance.
JWallace I will have to see what the cost is to put the pieces together myself too. Not sure I have enough confidence in myself to sweat pipes and such but we'll see. I might PM you if I can think of any questions. Glad to hear you're liking the setup
JWallace that is the exact setup that the radiant company is selling except I will be using the LP version of the Takagi. I will just have one zone. I appreciate it. Supposedly the pre made system is ready to hook up minus the venting and the fuel line. I assume you did this all yourself...
Thanks for the reply. Radiant Floor Company is who I'm talking about, not Radiantec. Floor space is not huge concern so I could go with a tank type heater. Efficiency is a high priority. The less LP I use the better. I can vent straight up and out or through the side wall.
Hey all. I've been searching through old threads looking for what boiler everyone is using successfully for their in floor radiant heat. I had an HVAC tech figure out my heat requirements which came out to 40K BTU but his quote of $4700 to do the job kinda ruined my plans. The shop is 30x44...
