    Slab depth (future lift)?

We put in two pads for our lift, 2ft square and 6 inches thick. No signs of cracking or sinking. That was with wire mesh re-enforcement and the same kind of concrete you are talking about. It was on top of 2 feet of packed limestone gravel. We poured the whole floor including pads in one go so...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

They are damn near impossible to find here as well. I've been trying to find one or one of the other very similar ones that were made here for 4 years. My friend has one and says he's only seen a few in the last 30 years.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I've been collecting stuff since i was a kid. I knew there were others out there like me it just took me awhile to go looking for them. My original plan when I came over here was to fill containers and send them back. Lack of money has stood in the way and the increased difficulty of shipping...

    Furring strips for OSB ceiling?

I'd be worried about snow load and laminated beams and moisture don't exactly get along unless they have completely impregnated the timber with the bonding resin. I have to be honest and say I wouldn't use anything other than solid timber for poles that are buried in the ground. How wide is the...

    Furring strips for OSB ceiling?

I have to agree that spacing is too wide and lightly built. You probably should have put a header board across your poles and put the roof trusses on 24" centers. Better make sure what ever you hang is attached to the trusses and not the strips you put in between. What size are your poles?

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I got some only slightly out of focus pictures of my vise piles today. Sorry they are all stacked on pallets but space is running out. I've actually skipped buying a few although I passed on one monster I really wish I'd bought now. They are nearly all Record, Paramo, Parkinson and Woden...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

What a great bunch of boxes. I'm going to go read the last 50 pages now. Just thought I'd post up this old darling I picked up last week. I think it's the oldest one I have. The sticker says Snap-On but it may be a Waterloo from what I've read so far. I just need to find the missing drawer. If...

My search for made in the USA vise grips.

I've been picking up the Made In the USA ones for years. I've got a few pairs of the global sourced ones but 99% have the old Petersen logo stamped on them. I actually found a pair last week that predates Petersen and doesn't have the release lever. Really a very interesting pair. It's amazing...

    American Expat in The UK

Hello All. I'm an American tool collector currently living in the United Kingdom. I collect just about everything made from metal although I lean towards automotive and metal working and not carpentry tools. I have an affinity for pocket knives and hammers in particular.
