I had the same dilema and decided to hire a pro. 25 cents poer square ft and you'll get a better job than those rental machines can do IMHO.

    those darn property pins....

I went to my building/zoning department and was told the dimensions of my lot and also shown an aerial drawing of all the lots in my neighborhood and the easements. I was also told that ther isn't a law that says you can't build on an easement, but if they need to get to the cables under your...

    Metal pegboard

Menards sells gray pegboard. Here at mine its $25 for a 4x8 sheet and since it has to be special ordered, you need to order at least 5 sheets. Thank God I hit the jackpot at a builders auction and got a pallet of about 80 pieces of 4x4 sheets of gray and black pegboard for $40!!! Gonna use it...

    gutter help

$5.50 a ft for commercial gutter sounds about right. I charge around that. The Downspouts depending on the size seem a little high if they are 3x4. 4x5 downs are quite a bit more. I have never used nails only screws with a hidden heavy duty brackets.

    gutter help

Not sure of the size of your garage, but most of the garages I do, I only put one downspout on each side. THe going rate here in Northern IL for me is about $3.25 a ft installed. The bigger downspouts runs about $3.50 a ft installed. As for the leaf guard, there are a million different products...

Cold air return in Detached garage.

I talked to my HVAC guy and we decided to leave the returns up about a foot off the floor. Mostly so that all the dust that settles on the floor doesn;t get sucked up.(i know there will be plenty of dust reguardless) The garage side is strictly to store my 99 Wrangler and my Harley, so there...

    contractor problems--legal advice?

I would wait on taking legal action and do what you said. You buy the material and he finishes the project with a new written contract. When he's done and you looked over everything and not a second before, pay him the rest. I'm a contractor and don't necessarily like finishing other guys...

    Return air location

I am no expert, but I have been researching this for quite some time. I believe if its only heat you are looking for then the returns would be best at a lower location where it can **** up the cold air. It also depends on where your supply ducts are at. If they are on the floor as well, then you...

Cold air return in Detached garage.

Thanks for the reply. The HVAC guy I have helping me is not to familiar with garage codes, since he has never done forced air in a garage, so I was just looking for some suggestions.

Cold air return in Detached garage.

I am at the point of trying to figure out my ductwork for the 100,000 btu furnace I am installing in my 40x50 garage. I am planning on putting the furnace on the floor (at least 18" off the floor). about the middle back wall. The garage is seperated with a wall and the furnace will be up next...

My Epoxy-Coat floor one year later

Hey Nathan, I am thinking of doing a black or darker shaded floor. How is it with dust, dirt? Do you keep your garage door open alot? I can't see any of your pics, on the build thread. Thanks! The floor looks awesome!

Menards T8 shop lights $9.99 after $5 MIR

I have these in my shop, hanging at the moment. . They say you need at least 3 inches of space between the ceiling and the fixture, but I have seen a couple of shop that have them surface mounted with no prob. I got the rebate at menards. I believe you can only get a rebate for 4 of them. I just...

    Insulating new 35x35 detached

I'm using R 30 bats for the ceiling. I think its almost double the cost vs blown in, but I am gonna make some storage area up there for lightweight stuff and I will probably be spending alot of time up there addin and changin outlets, running tv cable and what not, so I didnt want to mess around...

    insulation

Just think of it this way. The more the insulation the less it will cost to heat and maintain the temp inside. The Paper acts like a vapor barrier, so if you do the bat you will have to put a vapor barrier over that. I'm by no means an expert, just been researching it myself. I am installing R19...

anybody have a bar in the garage?

I think most of you are getting the wrong idea. I am going to be putting a bar in my garage, but its not to drink while I am handeling power tools. Just a place to go away from the wife and kids for a bit and be with the guys. I built my garage twice as big just so I can have a mancave area. Oh...
