My First Shop Build (40x50x14) - feedback appreciated

Don't separate the areas where you are going to put your lift. Just space you pex about two feet apart. I have a 5" floor and we dug down another 2-3 inches for the lift bases and put in additional rebar. Mark it well on your plans. I have some low ground clearance cars so I put a 120V winch...

New Shop Build w/ Radiant Heat - Fargo ND

A trick to fill the system the first time is pull a vacuum on the system with a HVAC vacuum pump. I ran it an hour or so. ***** the water in in no time and you don't have to bleed each loop. I also used soft water with a 25% Glycol mix. My system is hooked up with an auto fill valve to the house...

Has anyone regretted getting Racedeck Freeflow and wished they went with solid tiles?

I have solid (alloy and graphite coin style) with free flow in my wash bay. I'm very pleased. I put 4 x 8' 11 ga galvanized sheets under my lift. 7/16" OSB under the sheets to keep the floor level. That way the engine hoist, trans lift, etc. roll smoothly and dropping a tool or part doesn't...

    Light for air compressor.

I put a 120V under cabinet light over the door. Can't miss it. I tapped into one leg of the 240 2-pole breaker and and ran the ground and neutral just like a normal 120V circut. I had a brand new compressor motor catch fire right after I installed it so I'm a little goosey about leaving the...

Garage Floor Protection under Scissors lift rollers (polyaspartic/epoxy/flakes) --suggestions?

I put a couple sheets of 10ga galvanized under my lift. Makes it easy to use an engine hoist or transmission jack. It also protects the floor from dropping stuff . I would think that would protect your floor from the rollers.

    Tile floor walk-on feel

I have the TruLock HD Coin tiles. I put landscape fabric down and they click a little but I got used to it. I can definitely hear the dog coming. Garage Flooring LLC was great to work with.

40x50 metal building electrical layout help / suggestions

Mount your receptacles 50" or more so you can lean lean plywood, metal, etc. against the wall and not cover then up. I mounted mine at 45", dumb move. I also use quad receptacles on separate circuits.

Cooling and Heating my foamed shop

I'm almost identical. I'm in Kansas so our temps would be about the same. My shop is 50 x 64 x 14, so same cu ft. Spray insulation with metal interior walls and ceiling. I have 16" of cellulose in the attic. I have a 5 ton AC. It never goes over 82 or so in the summer and it cools down to 74 in...

    Lift Master 8500 Questions

I have 5 (2 on 8 x 10 and 3 on 12 x 12) that are 5 years old on a shop/house with metal siding & roof.. My complaints are that they are slow, not a big deal, and the remotes are weak. I have to be within 10 feet or so of the door to get them to open. Some time you have to hit the button 5...

    Propane line size future proofing

You need a riser outside shop too. Otherwise an underground leak could follow the pipe into your shop.

    Radiant vs. All Others

You say you're doing graphics. If that includes cut vinyl the unit heater will be blowing your materials away. I have radiant in my 3200 sq ft shop set at 56 deg. Since I wanted AC I also installed a furnace since it's not much more than an air handler. I bump up the T-stat when I'm ready to...

    Jet Mill power feed

I have a Jet Model JMD-15 mill. About 7-8 years old. I want to add a power feed. Amazon's full of them, but I'm looking for suggestions. Must be 120V. Thanks Jack

    Manageable size steel panel length

Also you might start from the back & move towards the doors. That way the overlap of panels almost disappears.

Do I need a new Furnace?

Check the blower wheel for cracks around the hub. If the wheel goes it can also take out the motor.

Is your mini-split indoor unit mounted low?

Mini-splits don't have very good filtration. Mounting them close to the floor just means the dust bunnies don't have to jump very high to clog up your unit.
