    My own 'Mahal

My side-hustle job has been going gangbusters and consumed every spare waking moment for the last couple of weeks. I'm heading to Bulls Bay north of Charleston for a fishing weekend this weekend on my Hewes, getting caught back up on business the next, and hopefully cranking away at more tile...

Thanks for the info!....Wheweee - they sure are proud of their tubing! ;-). Since I'm not dealing with toxic fumes, I'll probably substitute something a little more affordable for the tubing.

    Looking to brighten things up

Porcelain tile is a "forever floor". Select a through-body tile (no glaze on top - color is through and through) and something with an outdoor traction rating. Install with backbuttering and shoot for 95% thinset under the tiles (very little air gaps!).

The 35amp roots blower vacuum pump on my CNC router exhausts 150 degree air (at a pretty good rate). I had planned to put in a drier exhaust vent through the wall so I could plumb the exhaust through that during the summer when I'm running the A/C but coming through the garage door would be a...

Still cranking away on the tile. It's slow and it's going to take a while but it's getting to the point where I can really start to see what the final product is going to look like and it's nice! I got the second (of 6) concrete pads tiled and grouted and started the process of moving my CNC...

Got a bit more done on the tile. Discovered that one of my control joints was wonky but managed to make it up even with the minimal 1/16" grout line I'm using (not recommended). My tile corners aren't "perfect" in this section but they are a reasonable compromise to having tile span areas of...

It's an old PRS that was converted to a PRT control system at some point before it got to me. I have a number of improvements that I'll be building/installing on it once I get other things in order - namely, an entirely new Z-axis with a water cooled, VFD driven, spindle...rewiring with energy...

    My own 'Mahal

It's been a while! After a lot of growth and growing our home business and lots of hobby stuff being wedged into an overcrowded schedule, I decided 2020 will be the year of the garage. I'm finally moving toward completing the vision I had for this space. I bought a small Axiom 2'x4' CNC two...

    Finalizing Mini Split Options

18k should be fine. I have a 24x36 with 10' ceilings that I heat and cool with an LG 18kbtu mini split at 24seer. My garage has a full second story (also heated and cool with another 18kBTU LG unit) over top of it. My walls are standard 2x4 stud walls with decent insulation. I have a 16'...

    Shortening mini split line set?

It is common practice to shorten and flare the ends of that tubing as needed. In fact, a lot of pros don't feel comfortable relying on the factory made flares and will reflare the ends, regardless. There are a couple of things to be aware of: 1) the more modern 410a refrigeration requirements...

    Where to put the outside A/C unit: S, W, E, or N?

while there is probably a little heat induction from the sun's rays into a condenser coil, the amount of heat gain into the cooling fins from the sunshine, when compared to the amount of heat they are actively transferring to the moving air, is very very little. The sun is hardly worth...

Fret not. In about 6 months time, you will look back on all that attention to detail and realize that a good bit of it was misplaced and somewhat over calculated...but you will enjoy the result even WITH the recently negotiated level of refinement you've had to accept. It will happen with just...

    Bad concrete pour. Next step?

The 'take the weekend to think about it' bit may have been as much for himself - he probably knows what the right thing to do is and just needs time to justify spending the $ (or figuring out who to extract his money from) to pay for it. This forum is pretty aggressive (and sometimes hateful)...

Maybe you can turn that garage door mechanism into a steampunk style "feature". Several big wooden and copper gears, some big heavy chains, and a massive "clunk-clink, clunk-clink, clunk-clink," sound when it opens and closes!
