    Show off your woodworking

I understand that some will discount this as not being woodworking as it was carved on my CNC machine. But it is beautiful enough my bride let me hang it in the living room 😂 it began life as a 2.00 cut off scrap of hickory from my local saw mill. It got moved around and collected dust for a...

Battery powered lights. What are you using?

They have sales a few times per year. Typically 20% off. I have an EDC, a much larger one I used when I was working the streets and my headlamp, which is 8 yrs old now. I personally purchase direct from that website. Mostly because I know I will get support if I need it, and they have the...

Battery powered lights. What are you using?

I have had excellent experiences with Fenix lighting. These people provide world class customer service. https://www.fenixlighting.com/ I had my granddaughter chew the rubber switch cover off my EDC flashlight from them. I reached out, they shipped me a new one at no cost and a link to the...

Anyone have LED shop lights that last ?

Mine from primelights.com have been installed almost 5 yrs now without an issue. But I cannot say the same for Menards LED shop lights from a Black Friday sale a few yrs ago. Out of 7, 2 have failed. Classic example I got what I paid for.

    Garage shop light fixture options

I used Prime Lights for my shop 5 yrs ago and can’t say enough good about them. Bright, well built and they provided technical support to provide location and number of lights for my space. Find ways to save money somewhere else. Don’t scrimp on overhead lighting!

    Screens for garage doors

I would build frames and add screens to the frames. My door is 10’wide and 8’tall. Wouldn’t be able to get one off the shelf. I opted for a mini split and skipped the screens.

    Let's See Your Garage Dog

This is Callie. She is fairly new for us. She rescued me after the loss of my buddy Bella the greyhound. She is still too spooked to come far into the shop, but likes when I sit on the sofa and pet her. She is already a great companion. Dogs make us whole!

    Buying windows and door

I have looked and shopped and researched windows for the last year. I reside right down the road from Pella, and I wouldn’t put their windows in even if they were half price! Actually, Pella windows are what is in my house and they are junk! One window in the garage had to be screwed shut in...

    Finishing Garage Walls with Plywood

I opted for “cabinet grade” 3/4” plywood in my shop. Personally, I would never have made cabinets out of it, but it gave me the appearance I was seeking, along with the ability to hang whatever, wherever. At the time, it was 32.00 per sheet and I needed 19 sheets. I covered the top 2’ in...

    Let's See Your Garage Dog

This is “Callie”. She is a new rescue for us. Historically, we rescued greyhounds. In fact, I bet one or more of my “angels” are somewhere in this thread. Callie is a nice girl, still getting used to her surroundings. She has totally stole my heart, and I invite her into the shop all the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Well technically it was “yesterday“ but I helped a friend of mine who lost her son in a tragic car crash a year ago. Her husband called me in Saturday and asked if I could help with a project. He made his son’s urn and wanted his name carved on it. They came over and I carved his name on the...

Recommend: Elec ceiling mount shop heater 1000sq ft, N.Idaho

I had a house in the northern Iowa. I purchased and installed a fan driven electric heater in a 24x30 attached garage. it honestly cost me 40dollars for 1 weekend of running it and it wasn’t below zero outside. Needless to say, I didn’t run it much. Electricity was terribly expensive there...

Pole Barn Liner With Spray foam

My trusses are 4’ on center, so I’m not sure about 8’. Probably recommend using 2x4s on the flat across the ceiling. As the above poster listed, I used plywood on the walls to the 8’ mark, then a piece of flashing and finished it with metal. It was cheaper than the plywood per square foot, and...

    pole barn insulation

I blew it in, or my son in law did. I’m too darn old to get up in the rafters. Got R42 blown in, love it!

Metal ceiling installation struggles... scissor lift better than scaffold?

I bought, then returned after getting on it, a scaffolding set up from Menards. It was entirely too shaky for my likings. I ended up using a drywall lift I borrowed from my brother in law and 2 8’ ladders. The ladders were too narrow for 2x12’s at the height I needed, so I placed the ladders so...
