I was also limited to 800sq ft. My shop is 20x40x12 you can see it in my build thread. I consider it an oversized single bay (with hoist) and then have some extra room at the back for setup tables and larger tools.
My shop is 20x40 you can look through my build thread. I don't use it for storage but for working on one vehicle at a time.
For storage you might want to look into the double wide four post lifts, it might save you a little bit of width.
That is with everything, all the way from having grass in the yard to pain on the walls. Remember that this is DIY everything, I think I have less than $2000 labour paid total. It is all in my build thread.
My shop is 20x40x12, I built it only a few years ago and DIYed as much as possible. I was just over $50K CAD. You can view the build thread in my signature.
I have the air thermostat in my shop. Only time the floor sensor would be better is when I have the overhead door open a few times in the evening and it is very cold outside. In this circumstance the system will overshoot and will eventually be warmer than desired inside, and the floor will be...
FYI for my panel lift an ice auger extension worked perfectly to add a little more reach. Loading sheets with this style extension is more difficult because you have to lift it higher.
Thank you, no plan for a ladder/stairs. I am hopeful that items stored in the loft area will be seasonal only and I'll only need to go up there 3-4 times a year.
The office/shed and loft are done. A few quick pics of how it turned out. Over the summer I will finish all the trim work and clean the benches off so I can take some final pictures. At that point the shop will be done until I make changes in the future.
I started framing the office/tool room and loft area today. The office will be about 7’x7’ and 86” ceiling height. Overall I’m happy with how it is going to turn out.
In the picture you can see the office area to the right with the window. It will have a 60” patio door so that you can look...
In Manitoba Canada 20x40 12' walls
I went with an electric boiler and radiant floor heat. I also ran a 240V 20amp line for a future mini split for AC only.
I have natural gas to the house but by the time we considered the pipefitting, running the line, and the additional cost of the boiler...
Today I closed the building permit with the rural municipality. But of course the build and finishing of the shop will never be complete. I plan to start the office and loft area next week.
Since my last post I installed the metal siding, coffee brown colour which is appropriate given my love...
I am almost done my 20x40x12 build. I have DIYed everything except electrical and part of the heating system.
I'm going to finish the build just over 50K CAD
